Bridge vs. Partial Dentures

My dentist put in a 4 tooth bridge (lower rear molars) about 4 years ago. It has fallen off once, and broken once. Yesterday the front anchor tooth broke.

Dentist told me he could build up the crown, and put a post in to support a new bridge, for a mere $4000. I have already put this amount, and more into this area of my mouth, and still having problems.

I have also started researching the possibility of a partial denture, as it seems much cheaper, but I am concerned about going this route.

Anyone have any experience with either, or suggestions?

I'll let you know about how well my upper bridge works after I get it next week. It will be held by two teeth with crowns. I still have two implants in my future and those will cost $10K. So far this year I have spent $35 large on my old, deteriorating teeth. So much fun. No new pickup truck this year, or any future year.

Implants are great these days. They feel so natural and seem very sturdy. I have three, with two more that are almost done and are getting their crowns put on tomorrow.

The price seems to vary a lot in different parts of the country. My first one, back in 2013, cost $3450 total including the crown, prescriptions, implant surgery, bone graft, and so on. Prices are going up so maybe $4K or so by now. But think about it - - I can't imagine a single thing in the world that I'd rather spend my money on than teeth that are as solid and natural feeling as a teenager's teeth.

I've got a couple of implants and so far so good. Any tooth once root canaled loses its vitality and can fail. My $5k bridge is the second one and a couple years old and they don't last forever.

I'm about 3/4 of the way through my first implant procedure, just had the abutment installed yesterday and will be have the crown put in in about 6 weeks. After the tooth was extracted I first decided to try a one tooth removable bridge but didn't like it so decided to go with the implant. My dentist gave me 75% credit of the cost for the bridge towards the implant. I use a dentist in Mexico since I live close to the border, total cost for one implant and crown is $1550.

I had four implants done at a dental college, about 1/3 the cost, great experience.

I have a bridge that is doing quite well. My wife has a bridge she has had for decades.

But I agree, look into implants. If you can do that, it might save you more money in the long run

I have a bridge in the canine area, which is not as much pressure as the molar. Going on 28 years. At the time, implants were fairly new. I would have had an implant if done today, and may go that route on a redo, if needed.

I had to have this done due to a genetic defect (missing teeth). Not my fault!

My mom had partials (1980s) and absolutely abhorred them.
