I'm in the habit of putting everything down when I'm done. DW and I got our first cat right after we got our first apartment (age 21). We had guests over one day, and all of a sudden heard a SPLOOSH from the bathroom and a second later our several month old kitten runs into the room, dripping water. Seat and lid always went down after that episode.
That cat is still with us, and now does other cute things, like bringing baby bunnies into the house and eating their heads...

For what its worth, I give my wife a hard time if she forgets to put the seat back up when she's done.
Ya see. I agree with that. Equal rights!
I put the lid down because it looks stupid to have it up... then again, we don't drink so there's no concern over having a ready target for hurlage.
Back to the original post... I say dump him, fast. How on earth are you going to talk to your boyfriend with your husband badgering you! ;-)
