When we retired 6 years ago at age 53 we moved and set things up for the next chapter of life. At that point our house represented about 25% of our total net worth. Today, the house is about 33% of our total net worth. Interestingly, our retirement portfolio is 50/50 allocation and has increased by over 30% in the 6 years we have been retired. Real estate market was on fire for a part of that time and our house appreciated more than our investment portfolio. In the end I am not sure how much the value of your house matters, so long as your retirement nest egg is large enough to support the retirement lifestyle you want.
