Distribution from 529

Can I open a 529 plan and reimburse myself for a qualified expense paid before the plan was opened? I know you can’t do this with HSAs, and wondered if the same rules apply to 529s. (The expense and reimbursement are in the same calendar year, I know about that rule.)

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question. But, just curious, is the reason you want to do this because you'll receive a benefit on your state taxes?
