I read a good article from Mike Piper at Oblivious Investor for the tax treatment of Roth withdrawals and Conversions. He also has a calculator on his website if you answer a couple questions about your Roth.

Good info to have for many folks. I've pretty much ignored the "rules" as I've always assumed I would distribute Roth IRA funds LAST (or not at all - in my life time.) So, by now, it's been 5 years since ANYTHING has happened to my Roths (except earnings.) I think I'm okay with the rules by now, though YMMV.
