Received notice my Humana Medicare Drug coverage will increase by 20% for 2016. While the yearly cost still seems reasonable, these big % swings YOY will drive many of us to the poor house if this goes unabated for another 20-30 yrs.

I can't imagine what is causing these increases.

Specialists in infectious disease are protesting a gigantic overnight increase in the price of a 62-year-old drug that is the standard of care for treating a life-threatening parasitic infection.
The drug, called Daraprim, was acquired in August by Turing Pharmaceuticals, a start-up run by a former hedge fund manager. Turing immediately raised the price to $750 a tablet from $13.50, bringing the annual cost of treatment for some patients to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I go on Medicare.gov every year to a computer program that analyzes our prescriptions and compares them to all the Medicare Supplement programs available for our state. We will change companies if the total cost changes dramatically. Not all insurance policies are created equal, even if they are following Medicare guidelines.

The wife of a friend of mine had a near-death experience a couple months ago. Humana called them to sign her up with a case manager. She is a physician, he is a prominent general surgeon (both in their 70s). He can manage her care and care costs better than anyone Humana can provide.

I want to express my deepest sympathies to those of you that have Humana medical insurance. If the merger (Aetna to buy Humana for ~37b) goes through, "you ain't seen nothing yet".
