If you were self-isolating ....

So.... Is walking the dog self isolation if you live in a neighborhood or walk a more populated location. The bulk of my social life is my daily dog walk at the beach... One of my walk buddies is a "hugger" - hugging the various friends we see each day... I've convinced her to change to being an elbow bumper for the near term. But my point is - even walking the dog is often among other people. (For the record, I'm not a hugger and could keep my 6 foot distance... ) Even in the neighborhood walks - there is usually a neighbor who wants to chat.

As for what I'd do... Probably bingewatch tv, read, and consider (but not do) various chores. Kind of like my normal days.

I'd say keep 2 or 3 yards away and you should be fine.

Some people are talking as if "isolating" means you have to be restricted to your home. I didn't interpret it that way. To me, isolating just means avoiding significant interactions with human beings. You can wander around wherever you like; you can say hi and be friendly; you just avoid getting into big interactions with people.

I exempt animals, btw. When I'm "isolated," I'm usually still communicating with dogs and cats, squirrels and birds, even nature and spirits if I'm tuned up enough. "In solitude is intimacy," as they say.

I prefer the word solitude, now that I think of it. "Isolating" sounds like something you do when you're depressed or have a medical condition. Whereas I think of solitude as something supremely enjoyable.

Needing to paint the interior of the garage and needing DH to help me. WIsh I had the paint on hand and we were ordered to self isolate while being well. It would be sparkling. Complete the taxes. Scrub some spots out of the carpet. Read. Eat a lot. I did order a 4 pack of puzzles and I started one. Find a new series. Finish an old series. Hold the kitty. Its good for everyone when the kitty is held. Wonder if there would be a post isolation baby boom?

Close to my ordinary life.

After a week or two I would google for SPAM recipes since my freezer is tiny.

And I would go for the occasional drive if I wasn't ill and just self isolating. Since my electric car charge at home I could go for many drives without visiting any gas stations.

When I get bored there is always lots of chores to do. Perhaps a spring clean?

I am just finishing the 6th week after knee replacement. I watched a lot of Family Guy! and caught up on some netflix series. and tried to read some books, but Family Guy kept calling!!

I’m normally self isolated most of time. I spend several hours a day solo hiking, biking, kayaking, out in my workshop, or doing yard work. It’s not uncommon for me to go several days without talking to anyone other than DW.

I would have no problem going into full blown self isolation for 2 weeks.

Just the other day DW was commenting on how well organized a neighbor's garage was. Wonder how I can get her to do ours?:[emoji23]

Besides there is always FaceTime! You aren’t really isolated if you can communicate with friends and family electronically.

I would skip grocery shopping for a week. Really, this is what retirement is all about as far as I'm concerned. So I could self-isolate.

Between Instacart, Amazon and Door Dash deliverery, there's really not much need to go out. But even as an introvert, I still need contact with the outside world. I can take only so much staying at home.

I might try avoiding doing anything dusty in case my breathing gets difficult or I get a cough, so that would limit me. I don't totally trust dust masks. I heard breathing all purpose cleaner is like smoking so I guess I'd try to avoid that too. And it would be no time to use Teflon because that causes flu-like symptoms. Maybe I'd scan a bunch of photos and documents. I've been needing to do that.

If I'm staying home because it gets too risky to be in public (them, not me), that opens up more options.

Must be getting old. I completely forgot about that. I buy most of my food at Aldi. Every week I pass the big sign that says "Aldi now has home delivery!"

If I had to really no way out of it stay home for a couple of weeks I could could use that service. If they weren't short-handed due to employee illness...?

The minor social contact is the reason I still do these things myself. I also need to stay up on what's happening at stores and around the neighborhood and local area. Wouldn't want to leave the house one day and find myself like Peter Sellers in that movie "Being There."

Maybe a sign will develop, like wearing a certain color, to let people know that you’re keeping your distance for health reasons. Which would be cool so I could walk around and people would just get out of my way like I’m parting the ocean, but the ocean is people. :D But seriously, in isolation, it would be good to do thinks like walk around the neighborhood and let people know that you have a health concern without having to actually say it to anyone.

Wearing a face mask will do.

If you were self-isolating for two weeks, what would you do?

Celebrate that I don't have to go grocery shopping, or run errands, or tend to our aging parents. :)

Otherwise, I probably wouldn't leave the house for weeks at a time. Between computing, woodworking, reading, and catching up on my backlog of TV shows I have plenty to keep me busy. If it's summer time there's always yard work to do, or hikes to go on.

Generally, Isolation separates sick people from those who are not sick. So if you are sick, don't go out!
Quarantine usually separates and restricts movement of people who have been exposed.

I guess if you are trying to self isolate to avoid catching anything yourself, you can be outside, just stay several feet from others. And avoid any stores, restaurants, etc. Kind of depends on what your goal is, I think.
I wouldn't have a problem staying home for a couple weeks. Plenty of time for gardening, reading, etc. I have enough food to last, just may want a few things delivered if possible and would wipe everything down if able. If not, then the emergency food would have to come out!

Self isolating means not going to anyplace where you can touch contaminated surfaces. Merely staying X number of feet from others doesn't do the trick. Touching any common surface can harbor disease. If I'm trying to avoid contamination, then I'm staying away from not only other people, but what ever other people have been in contact with.

We actually just finished doing this. DH had Influenza B and I had a bad cold for about 4 weeks, beginning in early February. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn't feel great, so napping occupied a great deal of time. I read, shopped online, had groceries delivered, watched lots of tv, and relished being able to decline social invitations due to our illness. I'm an introvert, so it wasn't difficult at all.

My landlord is doing annual inspections. Drop ins sometime between 9-6pm Mon and Tues. You don't need to be home but I am afraid they would let the cat out. So I will do whatever exercise will get me home by 9 and then I can practice self-quarantine.

I am going to do all of my weekly cleaning, read my book club book, and start learning Spanish again.

For 2 weeks just means I would skip going to church one week.

I was going to try a new church today. I didn't b/c I didn't know if they are still shaking hands during the service and I didn't want to have that awkward moment. I always disliked that part even before the virus.

So I went to the club and swam in the pool, which I usually don't do on weekends b/c the club is crowded. Pool was empty. Got in the first lane, which has a stair entry. Next thing you know, a guy gets in the same lane and asks if he can stand by the stairs and use his phone. Then, 10 minutes later ANOTHER guy gets in to stand next to the first guy and talk to him. Oh no! Where is my 3 feet of clearance? This has never happened any time before. I should have gone to church :) Maybe that's a divine message.

At my church this morning, the pastor announced that we would no longer be shaking hands during the Passing of the Peace, that every pew now has a bottle of hand sanitizer and that the sexton is working overtime scrubbing down all the commonly touched areas. And if you don't feel well, you should stay home. We'll see how that goes.

Being an introvert I doubt I'd have any problem with it as long as I had Internet access and package delivery for books. We don't have grocery delivery available but I'm sure I could get by with what we have supplemented by Amazon Pantry and other online food stores. If able, I'd do some house painting and if I explained the situation I'm sure the paint store would be happy to accommodate my request for delivery and to "just leave it on the porch".

I would binge watch the new Star Trek TV program and Outlander on Starz. But I am an extrovert and will probably get cabin fever fast. A couple of years ago we got snowed in for a few days and the internet/cable was out. I read all my books and reorganized the kitchen and the closets and drove DH crazy. On the other hand DH and I had a bad case of flu last year and we self quarantined for 2 weeks. I felt so bad all I did was stay in bed--too sick to watch TV or read.

+2 We decided to skip buying groceries for the next few weeks in order to replenish hurricane supplies by preparing everything from our pantry/ frg/frzr. We've not had to use any of those since hurricane Harvey hit us, so we can now eat things that are closest to being out of date.

We shop what we have from time to time so that I always have enough to feed us for a month or more. I call them our Pu pu platters (because what
and inn one meal we might be eating Greek, Ital, Mex foods. Today we'll be eating from our accumulated not canned fruit &veg along with some hot wings. We don't need to eat my dry beans, rice, a variety of noodles yet, but those alone might be boring, but we would make it prob. 3-4 mos worth. Oh and here's a bonus- I had forgotten about some strawberry Rhubarb empanades (little pies) I'd made in Jan that we are eating tonight & tom'w for dessert. So sad, we must eat pie![/QUOTE]

I'd finish watching Deadwood, ...

Plenty of things to do!

What a great series! We were so sad that it wasn't continued...

We both got Oculus Quest Virtual Reality headsets a month or so ago. We’ve been playing games but also making friends in AltspaceVR. Between that and reading our self-isolation would be cake.

If you are self isolating in Italy pornhub premium is now free.[emoji4] I guess you can watch premium porn for free for weeks or months.

https://thenextweb.com/shareables/2020/03/12/pornhub-free-italy-coronavirus/

The coronavirus has hit Italy so hard the government*announced*a nationwide quarantine — and Pornhub wants to keep citizens from leaving their houses… by giving them premium subscriptions, entirely free of charge.
The adult content company announced Italian users can claim premium subscriptions without entering any of their credit card details throughout March. Pornhub is also donating a percentage all of its proceeds from Modelhub — a subsidiary that helps creators sell*content — to local hospitals
