is there such a thing as OVER FRUGAL

I decided to try Highland Park which is a very flavorful Orkney malt of similar calibre to the Islay malts. I recommend it to anyone that likes Laphroaig.

Yes, agree it is very tasty.

I've been enjoying Caol Ila 12 year old lately. Also quite peaty.

Hmmm....started out as over frugal, and the discussion has been hijacked to distinctly non-frugal single-malts. :-[

Yes our frugality only need apply to what the wife or girlfriend wants. Single malt is a true necessity.

Caol Ila, ahh yes.

Alan and bosco, here is where I shopped. http://www.wineandwhisky.co.uk/ This shop had 3 ladies in their late 20's who knew their single malts. Unchillfiltered is the way.

Alan, you may have visited here and tasted the best fish&chips in England at Bizzie Lizzies. Fish&chips, 2 times or fish&chips times two, depending on the locals and some gravy or brown sauce on the chips and some crunchie bits. Ahh, I miss England.

OAP, I read your longing for the culinary delights of the UK and "methinks you've blown a leak in your bubble & squeak". :D

REW

REW, but my Toad-in-the-Hole, Bangers&Mash and Spotted Dick are just fine. :D

I actually liked bubble and squeak.

After talking about single malt scotch and English food, I'm wondering if the scotch was for thinning out the blood.

REWahoo, here was my local fish&chips, yummmy.

Very interesting. I've been to Skipton many times but have never been to that store. It looks great. I'll try and remember to go visit next time we are over.

For fish and chips my home town is hard to beat ( http://www.seaham.com/ ). However, Seaham is hardly on the usual tourist trail. A very popular town however is Whitby, and Whitby Cod and chips is simply superb. http://www.whitby.co.uk/

The witching hour is almost here, time for a wee dram methinks.

Alan, the shop is just beside the castle to the north. Every day they have a tasting. :D

Laphroiag :D :D :D
Talisker :(

Laphroaig tastes like listerine to me. Well, at least the 15 year did. Only one I tried after that.

The Highland Park 18 is good
Glenfarclas 10 and 17
Dalmore
Glenlivet French Oak
Glenfiddich Solera Reserve

Yum.

moghopper,
you're supposed to gargle with Listerine, not drink it.

Laphroiag is a dram for a cold, blustery winter night on the moors when the winds howling and it isn't safe for the wee ones to be oot and aboot. And a lad's had a wee bit too much when he starts talkin like a Geordie.

How man mutha man. Ye knaa what ah mean leik. Eeeh man, ahm gannin te the booza. Whees i' the netty? Gan canny or we'll dunsh summick.

moghopper,
yeah, I go to binnys once a week for my 9 gallon habit. Great place. I browse the vintages but ER has reformed my palate.

They have a sister store on Rush St. and it has 3 bottles of 1998 Hill of Grace merlot. Best wine on earth. Not kidding. $300 dollars a bottle. I'm more like a $6-7 a bottle wino.

I don't have the opportunity to visit the board quite as much anymore, but I have remembered a few choice moments ;-)

Besides, I don't think I'll still be around in another 88 years.

When I was in college I lived in an apt. that was so small even the rats were humpbacked.

Ok, you started something now. :D

When I was in college, my apt was so small..........................how small was it?

It was so small the cockroaches slept in bunkbeds.

It was so small the bathroom was the bedroom.

It was so small I shared a closet with 4 neighbors.

Etc.

You know how in college, if you brought a girl to your room you hung your tie on the doorknob to alert your roommate? Well my room was so small that I had to hang it on...oh, never mind.
