Maybe us sports fans shouldn't be complaining about cable prices

Just read an interesting article in Sports Illustrated about this topic. ESPN extracts the most from providers at $6.04 per person with TNT a distant second at $1.48. Now I have read that before and thought, well I would rather pay the $6 instead. But unfortunately it wouldn't work that way as you would have to discount the overwhelming majority who don't follow sports and wouldn't pay the $6 for it. They estimated an unbundled price for ESPN would be $30. And your regional sports networks that you like to follow the local baseball and hockey team on? They cited Rocky Mountain Sports (Colorado Rockies) as an example of an unbundled price. The current $2-$3 amount RSN receives per cable subscriber due to bundling could swell to over a $1000 per subscriber to offset the drop in reach if it was to be purchased ala carte. Ouch!
