In an attempt to get back to using a dSLR, I just bought an EOS 450 on ebay for little over $200. It is much lighter & smaller than my EOS 20D and has better specs.
I gave the mirrorless cameras especially the Sony NEX line a lot of consideration, but didn't like the reported slow auto-focus speeds. I also wanted a viewfinder and for that, you've got to go to the higher end of the line.
We just returned from a trip to the mountains and I didn't mind carrying the lighter dSLR - almost a pound off my old camera and smaller too.
