Our country has the bulk of global shale oil reserves. Our country's major oil shale formation exceeds a total of 1.5 trillion bbl. Recoverable reserves are between 500 billion and 1.1 trillion bbl.
We need to develop oil shale more quickly, during our lifetime, by learning from the oil sands experience. The solutions needed include air quality, water conservation, and reclamation. The new technologies involved are daunting, requiring another - MANHATTAN PROJECT.
