http://www.early-retirement.org/forums/f28/asset-allocation-tutorial-31324.html is over 500 days old and i can't post in it so i am starting a new thread.

LOL what a great job you did moderating this thread, i wish i was here when this started up.

i can figure out my asset allocation without any trouble but picking the right mutual funds (tsmi and tismi % are easy it's the other 2 or 3 funds i'm not sure about) and the % to allocate to them with MPT in mind i just can't get a handle on that.

i have read this thread 2 times and followed all the links that still exist. i found this to be very informative. unfortunately a lot of the links no longer exist. i am currently reading the http://www.investorsolutions.com/uploads/documents/Investment_Strategies_21st.pdf online book that was a link in the thread.

would there be any interest in starting this thread back up or do you feel there is nothing more to add to this?

If you click the checkbox at the bottom of the page that says "I am aware that this Thread is rather old but I still want to make a reply" I think you'll be able to add a comment to the original thread.

Hey Mods, what about making the original asset allocation tutorial a "sticky" thread?

Thank you.

The best place on the web for investment advice is now Bogleheads Investing Advice and Info They even have a Wiki with lots and lots of info and links, although it is not that well organized. Also, a number of the experts cited in the tutorial thread have published new books that are worthwhile reading.

In the end, there are two main camps on asset allocation:

1. Those that advocate the total market index approach with no overweighting, and

2. Those that advocate a small-cap and value overweighting in a so-called slice-and-dice approach.

You can pick your camp or anywhere in-between. It would be unusual to go outside of these boundaries though.

These 2 camps argue all the time on the bogleheads forum. Of course, there are other investing arguments on the web all the time: active vs index, do-it-yourself vs pay-an-advisor, beaver-cheese-futures vs pancakes-on-bunnies, Dex vs Ziggy, etc.
