Hi,

I wound up picking out this notebook(below) from Toshiba direct. They had no payments no interest for a year, and I got a free carrying case, printer, and a 1 gig portable storage usb device and free shipping. It was more expensive than I really wanted, but I didn't mention that I'm a big gamer, and I want to play the upcoming "Crysis" on high settings, so I got a machine that will be cutting edge for a while to keep up with high end system requirements.

It also has everything I need to connect with the internet, plus a built in HD tv tuner. Thanks for all the advice. I'm going to have a lot of fun with my new "toy". :D

nice new toy... enjoy it. ...seems that you did 'pay' for the free stuff though

I bought a toshiba lap top last year and I love it plus a few months after I bought it they sent me a portable mouse for free.

i hope thos espeakers sound even 10% as good as the Harmon Kardon home theater system i set up...they will be great! never knew they made smaller speakers

as far as the pc itself...i do envy you! but i'll buy a similarly spec'd laptop in about 2 years for 500 bucks ;-)

Wish you'd mentioned you wanted a gaming slab...

You could have tried this out and saved a few bucks...

Yeah, that's a really good one. I was looking at that one at newegg, and I almost bought it, but I wanted to get something with 512mb ddr3 video memory.
Plus, this one is a 17" screen, not 15.4", and if you compare the specs closely, I think you'll see some more big differences. dual 160GB hard drives vs 1 drive at 160 gb with the Asus, Vista Ultimate vs premium, GeForce 8700M GT with 512MB DDR3 vs nVidia GeForce 8600M GT w 256 mb DDR2, TOSHIBA USB HDTV Tuner (External) vs no hd tv tuner, plus I really like the fingerprint reader feature. Yeah, it was more, but I thought it was worth it with the additional features. And I figure the 12 month 0% financing is worth another 125 bucks if I'm keeping my money invested with at least a 5% return, so all in all, I'm very happy with the choice.

Take care,

Eddie

What do you use the 320 GB of disk space for? Videos and music?

I like having 2 HD's on my computers. I backup everything from my main HD to the BU HD just so I don't lose all my important files. Digital pics, music, various movies of various genres obtained by various methods(including home digital videos of my family, not "just" porn!- Boom chakah wackah!), investment info, trading programs, etc.
I know 160gig seems like overkill, but that's what I thought when I bought my 80 gig HD at home, and that is at 60% full after less than a year, so I may need the space, especially if I'm going to copy a lot of the home info to the laptop and use both systems as backups for eachother also.
Plus, good video games come on dvd's now and can use up many gigs. And you can get huge hd's now for about the same price as smaller ones, so why not go bigger if the price is the same? I got a 500 gig external hd for my home system for like 39 bucks after a rebate! They must be whipping them communist asians good to pump out high tech products so cheaply!
Mao! diddy mao!
