Back in the mid 90's, when I left a large consulting firm's Denver office, they gave me a plaque with my name engraved on it. It meant nothing to me, because once I leave a place, I'm done with them - I don't care to reminisce about them and would never have anything like that on display in my home.
I used to park my car in the back of the building, where all the trash bins were. So as I was walking to my car with my little box of personal belongings, I stopped by the dumpster first, lifted the lid, threw in the plaque, and let the lid fall back down with a big bang.
As I was getting in my car to leave, I noticed my former boss standing at the door looking right at me. I'm pretty sure he saw me throw the plaque away. I just got in my car and drove off for the last time.
Hopefully the takeaway for him was not to buy useless crap for people who are just going to throw it away. I have no use for that kind of junk.
