Wildflowers as a Lawn?

Since it's both moist and shaded, perhaps ferns would be a good choice? Many types tend to self-propagate like crazy. Perhaps ferns in the darkest dampest back area, and wildflowers toward the front? They aren't maintenance free though, and a lot of those wildflower seed packets are junk in my experience.

Ferns would work fine in any shaded area. We have a 5 acre building site and as some of the shaded plants from 30 plus years ago give up the ghosts I'm going the fern route.

I was shocked during recent heatwave and continued dry conditions how well some scotch moss I recently separated from the one patch I had into small bits and put between pavers and along a wall in dappled shade have done. It's a pretty chartreuse green to boot. So far it's seeming like it has a place in low maintenance yard.
