If you have to pay a load, shop elsewhere. In this day and age, no one should be paying loads.
If large growth does well, the high management fee will keep this fund from doing as well as cheaper large growth funds. If you get a fee discount that is good, but most of those are not contractually obligated. It is more like a charitable act of the manager, which can be revoked at any time. And, if the discounted fee is not in the range of 0.5% or less, shop elsewhere.
If large growth does not do well, this fund's performance will be abysmal. That is the problem with picking sectors and the reason many of us do not do it.
Finally, BTW, the stars have been proven to not be predictive. Even Morningstar admits this. So ignore them.
(This is all from an American perspective. Hopefully the Canadian market also offers better and cheaper funds, a luxury that we definitely have here.)
