We returned, a week or so ago, from a two week stay in Dallas. There is a saying that "If you can make it in New York City, you can make it anywhere." Well, after putting around 1,000 miles on the odometer inside the D-FW metro area, I can state categorically: If you can drive in Dallas/Fort Worth, you can drive anywhere." There are way too many people trying to get to way too many places -- even the "car strangled spanner" during the heighth of Rush Hour in San Fancisco is less crowded than D/FW roads at anytime of the day. The amount of new road construction and complexity of the road system combined with the highly wound drivers make this place the most complicated I have ever visited -- which now includes every large city in the U.S.
On the other side of that coin, however, is Houston where, during a comparable period a year earlier, I found the friendliest drivers of any major city in the U.S. It was almost a pleasure to drive there. I, also, have a mini-love affair with the city of San Antonio.
