sooo....i couldnt help but go back...i found a 'report' button for reporting the wierdos immediately...and that helped.

i actually just had a 3 hour conversation with a young french guy. he thinks all americans sit around eating hamburgers and soda all day. i asked him if the french women shave their armpits.

the conversation degraded from there! actually it was a great convo. i might have made a new friend

Daily Show segment on Chatroulette from Thursday. Video: Tech-Talch - Chatroulette | The Daily Show | Comedy Central

I think I won't bother checking this out - too afraid of finding a friend or acquaintance - or even worse, a family member

I think this captures the essence of the experience:

Great video. Slightly scary-looking narrator though.

I loved the video. Makes me wonder how he defines an old person though....

Yeah I know...I'm one of them... If I had a webcam, I'd give chatroulette a whirl. Gotta at least try somethin' new in my old age...

An interview with the person who thought up the idea:

One on One: Andrey Ternovskiy, Creator of Chatroulette - Bits Blog - NYTimes.com

Quote:
Andrey Ternovskiy, a polite, excited and eager Russian high school student, scoured the Internet trying to find a Web site that allowed random video chats with strangers. When he realized a site like that didnít exist, he decided to build it. Three months and tens of millions of users later, the 17-year-old is wandering around New York City and (soon) San Francisco talking to investors and programmers about where to take his project next.

Our local news did a segment on Chatroulette last night. Until hearing our news anchor pronounce the word "Chatroulette", I didn't realize that the "Chat" part referred to "chatting"... I was pronouncing it as in "chat", the French word for cat, and I wondered what cats had to do with it.
