I've never had much luck using the search tool. Maybe it's me so YMMV.

I have the same issue but I do at least attempt to use search. It seems OPs choose titles that don't support search and tags are seldom used. One of my car hobby forums requires three tags to post a new topic.

I imagine using google specific site searches might be even more productive.
