of a home library for DW. Here is the finished product. DW is a part time librarian and she is ecstatic.

Beautiful!! Wow. That bookcase is a dream come true, especially for a librarian.

Now, just make sure she doesn't buy a Kindle..... >:D

Amazing! Did it cost less than if you bought something off the shelf?

Anything I built for my wife, she ended up replacing it :(. Sometimes, it costs us double the amount + my (wasted) effort to get something like this.

Just nail it down...

Mustn't let the DD see that picture. She's been bugging me for book shelves in the new house and it isn't even built yet.

No, but we had a perfect wall to put this, and getting pre-made ones just would not look the same as a built in, although the benefit with pre-made is you can take them with you.

Also, to be clear, I had a cabinet shop build these using my drawing. Although I have the skills to do this kind of work, I sold off my woodworking equipment years ago when we first moved to Texas:facepalm:.

Off topic, but 53 VW bug or old bus?
You talkin' to me! ......my name? 1963 corvette coupe. Known by it's nickname Split Window. Only year there were 2 rear windows with strip of fiberglas and metal down the middle. Hard to see out so it was discontinued the following year. My husband and I like almost all old/collectible and have had lots of different vehicles from VW beetles to 1932 MG. Right now we're into corvettes.
Still loving the book cases!

Very Nice! Now all you need are dark paneled walls, a deep red oriental carpet and a big leather chair.

Cheers!

A friend of mine was quoted upwards of $50K for a custom wall shelf created for her new house. She gulped and said I think we have different concepts of what needs to be done.

We were later at a local art fair near the end of show and found a wood craftsman who was also selling his display fixtures that evening. We bought them, ran to the local TSC for furniture dollies and wheeled them out of there. The $50k concept was nicer than the $100 solution, but not 500 times as nice.

p.s. DFW_M5, yours look beautiful!

Thanks for all the compliments!

I had to rent a storage locker for all of DW's books (plus a few other things), so am glad to finally get rid of that monthly charge. And now it is time for decorating the room with a few comfy chairs, and an oriental rug. We already have an electric piano, an antique table and tiffany lamp for the space. DW has an iPad, but she is old school when it comes to reading books. She reads about 3 books a week.
