We in South Florida have enjoyed relative cheap gas for the last few month. It was down to $1.87/gal until a few days ago. Then suddenly it shot up to $2.19 seemingly overnight. What do you suppose has triggered this? Has the rest of the nation seen a 30+cent increase recently?

I have no idea what gas prices are. I bought 2 electric vehicles so I'll never need to know. My last gas station visit was July of 2018.

No. We've been hovering around 2.15 for awhile. With grocery store and cashback card discounts, I paid around 1.65/gal last week.

Wholesale gasoline ( commodity traded ) is about about $ 1.44 up a lot in the last 30 days has been under $ 1.30 . Crude oil is up a lot.

Retail E-10 gasoline in CA can be found at $ 2.85 lowest in over a year . Go figure.

EDIT: Part of our high cost is carbon offset fees / credits that end up subsidizing electric vehicles.

It seems like the price hike takes a little while to hit us up north but we do pay more since we are further from the source. 1.99 up here.

Here in Michigan it's up from $2 a few weeks ago to around $2.15 today. Meanwhile, my energy stocks have risen by far more than I'll spend in gas the next couple of years. I guess it all depends on your perspective.

Actually Gas Buddy sends out alerts when prices spike (at least around here). Sometimes, if one of our cars us low, I'll run over to Costco to get the lower cost gas.

In my experience, Costco never raises the price during the day so the lower price lasts all day. And they are often have the lowest price gas or close to it.

WaWa in my area is about $2.20. Less .11 discount with Penfed card, it is what it is...
Low price stations around here usually post the cash price, and you are disappointed after filling up.

Actually Gas Buddy sends out alerts when prices spike (at least around here). Sometimes, if one of our cars us low, I'll run over to Costco to get the lower cost gas.

In my experience, Costco never raises the price during the day so the lower price lasts all day. And they are often have the lowest price gas or close to it.

In Tampa, Costco is usually the lowest price. However, I have a Shell rewards card so that gives me 5 cents minimum discount plus a Shell $50 card purchased for $40 at Publix if one buys 50 dollars of other stuff.

When visiting New Jersey the governor approved gasoline to be 20 cents more per gallon than the rest of the USA. Also NJ has a screwed up law that the customer is not allowed to pump their own gas.

Last fill up around these parts was at $1.79. This is Houston where many refineries are and fuel transportation costs are lower.

Seeing $1.85 here, was $1.74 at Costco. Was a bit lower a week or so ago - 1.78 was pretty common.

I’ve noticed a pattern most years of gas prices dropping to the lowest in December/January and the start to creep up again as we approach February.

Here in NE Fla., we cannot seem to crack the $2.07 mark. It has been that much for about a month now.

Yesterday I filled up at Walmart for $1.94, today the same station is $2.19

So it shot up 25 cents overnight ~ 13%

We are at 2.13 a gallon here in the greater Upper Peninsula.

We have 2 Marathon stations within 1/2 mile of where we live.

Prices were from a couple of days ago--probably not much change

That's odd. I didn't even know gas stations that pumped gas for you still existed. I thought that ended decades ago. I have personally never been to a place that had that option let alone required it.

Gasoline is $1.87/gallon for regular at my usual nearby Exxon station.

It's going up there, but only by a couple of pennies per gallon each week.

NJ state law. You cannot pump your own gas. Usually there is only 1 employee running from car to car pumping gas and collecting $$.

Missed out on that one. And now that the rest of the country wouldn't be helping us pay on property tax makes it hard to keep up with our sunshine tax.
