Getting through that last year or so

When I had decided on my retirement date, six months in advance, every day after work I came home and crossed the date off the calendar. And I had written at the top of each month the number of actual work days of the month. Then at the beginning of the month I would say, only 23 more days. Or whatever. Every month. Haha. It really helped! :) Walking out that last day was surreal.

I've workd for the same family owned company for 36 years, right out of college.

As the company has grown, and many have retired already, it's become a challenge some days to maintain a positive attitude.

I dread the day my boss retires. He's the best mentor I've ever had.

What helps me most is sharing my tribal knowledge & experience (when someone actually wants to learn), and trying to leave things better than I found them.......
