Happy Halloween!

So how do all of you INTJ, frugal folks celebrate?.....shop the thrift stores for a costume? we live so far out in the country havent had a trick or treater in years....I wonder how many times the John Galt household gets t-p'ed and egged this time of year

I'm gonna let my 3-year old boy pass out candy tonight. He loves doing that (per last year). We get a lot of trick-or-treaters.

Dress up the kids, and go out and beg for candy. My nieces and nephews are coming over as well, since my house is in the best neighborhood for trickertreating. We'll probably set out the "please take 3 bowl" when we're out. We usually get ~20 kids. I'll probably have some pics tomorrow and start a "halloween pic thread" if no one else does.

edited to add: costume for 1 year old daughter is a hand me down from her cousin. But a very nice costume and only used 1 time. costume for 2.5 month old is her big sisters from last year. The eldest will be a tiger (and she even has the "roar" down pat). The youngest is a pink care bear.

We had our trick or treat Sunday night. I was postponed from Saturday because of the horrid rain and wind. Turned out to be a great night weather wise, windy, dark with just a crecent moon, but not too cold. We normally get around 100 kids but this year it was down to about 75. Dh went all out this year and bought full size candy bars and now we have about 30 left

Lol my wife and I dont. I guess we are sticks in the mud. We dont get alot of kids around us so we dont bother. Now If I lived near my lil nieces and nephews and godkids then ya id live it up a bit but here naaah. Nothing around.

I had an unusually nice Halloween here.

DW won the coin toss and got to go to our son's house and escort the grandkids on their trick or treat adventures.

I stayed home to man the treat basket here. We've lived in our house for 30 years and have seen the generations of kids turn over a couple of times in the neighborhood. The last couple of years, there were only a tiny handful of goblins coming to the door. But, time goes on and this year I had quite a number of little firemen, princesses, cowboys/girls, pirates and spooks come to the door. It was great and a very entertaining hour or two.

DW loves halloween. She makes me help her decorate the house with strings of halloween lights and various goblins in the trees. The front yard gets filled with lighted gargoyles. Then when the kids ring the doorbell we answer wearing masks and offering plastic bats, vampire heads, spider rings, etc. We quit handing out candy a couple of years ago. I was skeptical that the plastic haloween figures would be accepted, but in a neighborhood of dozens of homes offering candy, the little toys are a big hit.

It's interesting that our two cats normally spend a lot of time sitting in the front window watching activities in our cul de sac. But during trick-or-treat time, when their presence would add to the halloween ambiance, they hide in the back room.

I had a good time on Halloween. Went to a house party. The host
is a professional magician. How cool is that? Has anyone noticed
how the most conservative Christians have "demonized" Halloween?
This is okay with me. I understand the thinking. Ditto dissing Santa and The Easter
Bunny. That's okay with me also. Too many holidays and secular
events anyway, IMHO

I enjoy seeing the little ones dressed up in their costumes. We have had fewer trick or treaters the last couple of years. My DD had to work, but her friend brought her 3 month nephew to our house dressed in a duck outfit. We took pictures of his first Halloween trick or treating experience. I don't think he was too impressed. He is so cute! It felt so good holding a baby again. If I had been a stay at home mom, I probably would have had alot more children. I hated the babysitting problems though.

I also had a small dog dressed in a ballerina outfit come with his small owner. He ended up with several cat treats. I sure that our 5 cats would not have approved.

We live on a very dark and private street with very few kids around. A few years ago, I decorated the front of the house and bought a huge pile of candy in anticipation of alot of trick or treaters- you never want to run out!! Also I was excited by the prospect of giving away "really good candy" -- so i bought the mini SNICKERS BARS!!!! anyway, we had the doorbell ring 6 times all night and gave away maybe a dozen snickers. The rest of the candy is now deposited in my thighs and arse So no mas Hallow'een for me.

So how do all of you INTJ, frugal folks celebrate?.....shop the thrift stores for a costume?

We made our 14-year-old buy her own costume this year! We had a friend over for dinner (visiting from Washington) and sat in the driveway watching the parade of kids.

We had dozens, although some of them looked old enough to have driven to our house. I was impressed with the guys who wore roller hockey costumes-- they covered the neighborhood at least 10x faster than anyone else.

Business Week claims that Hallowe'en has turned into a $5B/year business, most of which seems to have ended up on our street. A neighbor turned his front yard into a cemetery and even had a smoke machine generating mist all through his yard and across the street. Pretty spooky.
