Back in 2013 there was a thread introducing the Hyperloop to ER.org. Forbes has an update on the parties pursuing the Hyperloop venture. I thought it was interesting and brings the Hyperloop story up to date.

Assuming this things is developed and works well, I hope it provides another competitive choice for those traveling long distances by air. OTOH, let's be careful it does not become another form of crony capitalism at the expense of taxpayers.

Apparently somebody is still taking the HyperLoop seriously though the implementation may be different from what Mr. Musk envisioned.

"Utilizing a passive levitation system will eliminate the need for power stations along the Hyperloop track, which makes this system the most suitable for the application and will keep construction costs low," Bibop Gresta, COO of Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, said in the company's press release. "From a safety aspect, the system has huge advantages, levitation occurs purely through movement, therefore if any type of power failure occurs, Hyperloop pods would continue to levitate and only after reaching minimal speeds touch the ground.”
