Hi,

Called Direct TV and was offered $5.00 off per month for 2 months. Screw that. Let me talk to your supervisor.. On hold 25 minutes and system disconected me.

Called again and when prompted said "cancellation".

In a few minutes connected to nice gal and confirmed I had reached a retention specialist. Told her I was disconnected after 25 minutes on hold so was already in a foul mood.

Rest is all BS but nice result.

Told her I had kids, no MTV and Nick were causing a major revolt and I love comedy central

Told her I called Dish and could save $30.00 per month and they now had the NFL redzone and would give it to me for free (honestly don't know if they do or not). She assured me they didn't have NFL ticket. Told her redzone and I could at least see my teams scoring possessions.

Got $30.00 per month off and FREE NFL Ticket. I had 9 months left on my contract and had to extend to a year.

45 minutes and saved $560.00:dance:. YMMV but worth a shot.

Wally

I dropped DirectTV because cable came in that offered Internet access. Escalating layers of DirectTV management called me for weeks trying to lure me back. Threatening to cancel every year or so is a good idea. If they call your bluff, cancel when you are going on vacation and won't miss it for a while. Then see what they offer you to come back.

I am off contract, but still have Direct. I want a piece of their butt, but I am afraid I will have to wait until January, because I cant risk bluffing and losing NFL sunday package. Not getting stuck watching the Lambs play weekly when I have season long win total bets on the Cowboys, Gridbirds, and Broncos

You don't have to threaten to cancel.

Just speak to the retention department and ask what discounts they can apply to your account.

Standard discounts are ST Max for $150(half price) and $10 off your bill for a year plus $10 HD credit for 24 months (if you don't already have it.)

When they answer do you ask directly for retention department? What is ST Max? I should be able to snag the $10 and the $10hd as I have neither. They offered $10 off last year for auto bill pay, but I declined and didnt pursue after that. I have been with them for over 10 years so maybe they will throw me a bone!

St Max = Sunday Ticket Max (with redzone and streaming games to laptop/iphone)

You can say 'cancel' during the prompts but when you start talking to a real person, make sure they are in the retention depart (not channel retention).

I do think you auto pay setup for some of the discounts.

(edit) I just called again - had to speak to a retention supervisor - but got another $10 off bill for a year. They called this one the paperless credit.

Unless you like getting daily robocall hangups for about a year, don't give DirecTV your real phone number because that's what's likely to happen if/when you do cancel.

I noticed that AMC has been noting in ads that you can't get them on drectTV. Is that part of what's being discussed here? Is Viacom connected with dTV?

It's DISH that doesn't carry AMC.

The Viacom channel that we are missing the most is Comedy Central which carries The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Show and The Colbert Report. Here's the full list from DIRECTV Drops 26 Viacom Channels – Blog.Viacom

Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, MTV, BET, VH1, CMT, Logo, Spike, TV Land, MTV2, VH1 Classic, Palladia, Nick Jr., NickToons, TeenNick, Nickelodeon West, Tr3s, Centric, MTV India, Nickelodeon HD, Comedy Central HD, MTV HD, BET HD, VH1 HD, CMT HD and Spike HD.

They can keep all the MTV and VH1 channels, I don't need those back.
