Class of 2015

I made it through my first week of retirement.

What did I do - Had some drywall repairs done from a pipe replacement project previously completed; Had several dinners with friends; Began a more regular exercise routine, still a bit rusty but slow progress being made.

So far there is nothing I miss about work, other than some of my coworkers. Don't know if my feelings will change, but today I'm really happy to have retired early.

Two more months. I reminded my General Manager today when he called me since he didn't respond to my initial email 1 month ago. He told me he is still in denial.

Of course I accepted the necessity of having to drive about 150 miles on Wednesday due to something only I can do in the position I am in because... only 2 more months.

I will be w*rking 1 day a week until the end of 2015 so it's not full on retirement yet. But 6 days off out of 7 ain't bad.

I'm in slot #19 & my last day of work was Jan 27. It didn't happen as I had planned but I FIREd. The clinic I was working in was sold & all new staff were brought in...I was given a 2 day notice...lol!! I had planned on working 1-2 days a week for a few months to kind ease into retirement but alas, I was forcibly retired :) DW reduced to PT work as of Feb 2. So far we r both enjoying it but I'm still "worrying" about finances. We should be fine but I may got get a PRN position to help pay for travel & ease my anxiety a bit. :)

I'm apparently moving my date up as well Punxsyboy. I'm #62 in the list and was notified this past Thursday that my last day will be Feb 20. A small severance will actually carry me to about mid-May so I'm not modifying my date in my 'permanent record' here on the forum.

well, at least I won't unless this potential consulting gig that somebody immediately told me about is really really interesting. Sounds suspiciously close to OMY syndrome. Anybody have an opinion on defining an official' ER date? Not that it matters one way or the other, just thought it might spark a discussion.

Ugh! Today was one of those days...my ER in June cannot come quickly enough. I feel like I only have time to commute, work, and get ready to go to work (i.e. pack breakfast/lunch/healthy snack). I am exhausted and it's only Tuesday. I can't wait until I have time to exercise as much as I want and fix healthy dinners and maybe even take a nap occasionally.

Ugh! Today was one of those days...my ER in June cannot come quickly enough. .....

Philliefan - I have a June ER planned too, and I agree it cannot arrive soon enough. I gave a six-month notice in December and so far it's been great, but very busy. One of my tasks was to re-write my job description for the recruitment firm hired to find my replacement. Happy to do it because the sooner the person can be on-boarded, the easier it will be for me.

It becomes increasingly harder as you know the end is near :D

My original plan was mid year so as to give time to get some things done (like having my knee scoped which was done last week). But our company is being acquired/merged. I am not particularly motivated to learn new systems for a couple of months. The only reason I have not yet told a soul is that there are now rumours of layoffs and I want to be on that ship when it sails. So I need to stay low until I know more. However there is a high change that our office will move before July and I won't be moving so seems like earlier is more and more likely. I still have so dental work to do and my 401K is not yet max out though ;-P

It becomes increasingly harder as you know the end is near :D
I resigned 5 January expecting to go by 16 January. I had 100% of my pay going into my 401k to try to reduce any taxable income. I was asked to extend until 27 February. This had me do a crash revision to my 401k contribution rate but it takes a two pay periods for our cracker jack payroll group to reconfigure things. Hopefully, my next pay check will be right which will allow me to max out my 401k contributions and collect all of the company match. If it is delayed again, I'll lose the company match on my last pay check.

Hang in there if there is a whiff of serverance out there. Definitely don't tell anyone.

I've got 9 more "in-office" days until retirement.

This got me thinking and calculating: only 21 more workdays (I work 3 very long days a week now) until I go to one day a week until the end of the year.

This fact makes up for having to drive 150 miles today to certify that a patient needed to be involuntarily committed to the hospital.

The end is in sight.

You guys made me curious...so I did my count this morning. I have 84 more work days, if I don't take any vacation time other than what's already planned, which happens to be next week. I will have earned an additional 11 days of vacation by the time I retire. Maybe I will take a few random days just for mental health.

12 more work days for me... counting today. Long days really don't play into it... I'm not paid by the hour... My replacement starts monday... next two weeks are core dump and from what I hear... retirement party

Hang in there if there is a whiff of severance out there. Definitely don't tell anyone.

That's the current plan...it gets harder once all the medical things I am trying to get done are finished though. Every day I hear/see a bit more of what life might be like in the future company...

I feel sad for my coworkers most will not be able to vote with their feet like I will

I have a countdown to retirement app on my phone and have 79 days left. I started using it when I had 891 days left.

Ditto, bingybear. Eight work days left. Last day is February 27, and I am taking this Monday off for Prez Day, and the Monday after for a vacation day that's due me.:dance:

Added in Mike31204 in the #36 spot to replace 3800Fiero (who dropped out for now)

Adding myself to the list at the end... just joined up, but I've been reading for quite a while. Will either be the first week of March or towards the end, depending on whether they go for the trade-off I propose (2 week notice, or 4 weeks' notice to complete large monthly project in exchange for a few requests/adjustments during the notice period).

Turns out I had 43 days of vacation and comp. Notified management that unless I take some extra time than planned between now and then, my actual last day of work will be May 5.

As of tomorrow only 56 workdays.

Hello folks, love the site, medium time lurker, first time poster. It's time to finally come out of the shadows and get added to the list.

My last day will be April 3 at age 40.

I've been working towards this for 18 years but didn't realize there was anyone else out there that was "wierd" like me. I've learned a lot from the fine folks on this site and try to pass it along to others.

And what's the deal with dryer sheets?

Wow, LBYM! Way to go!
I am not sure who is updating the list or if each user is doing so. I will retire end of December 2015. I have to go after the 28th to get another quarter year in age for the pension formula. So 29th, 30th or 31st. I will be 56. My husband plans on retiring from his job in private sector at the same time. He will be 59. We decided not to w*rk a day in 2016, so we moved it up from March 2016.

I corrected my retirement date.

I need to change mine as well. I wanted to finish June 30, 2015 but both of my Ph.D students are behind schedule. Looking like the end of 2015 for me because they would put in a difficult position if I leave before they finish.

It's not official (I have to submit my retirement to the governing board) but I think it is time. 27 years in the school district- the last 11 as an AP and a principal. I was originally planning on June of 16, but I can take an ER (end of contract in June, 2015) now with a 7% reduction in my pension.
I am not sure you should put me on the list quite yet, but you can pencil me in :
