Jimmy Buffett Concert Advice?

DH and I are going to our first Buffett concert on September 1st. This will be the day after the settlement on our old house (fingers crossed). Anyone here been? Any advice?

We're going with some good friends. So ready for a change in attitude after moving and preparing our old place for sale then dealing with all that goes into selling a house. We were so happy when the lock box came off the front door and the "under contract" sign went up. You wouldn't believe how many people tromped dirt through the place, left doors unlocked, lights on, etc.

Hope this deal gets done...still need to go through the appraisal of our place plus the buyers finalizing the sale on their place.

Sorry you've been deprived, never been to a Buffett concert, that's un-American!

We've been to about a dozen parrothead concerts, they're the world's largest parties. You'll see lots of Hawaiian shirts, parrothead headgear, & flip-flops. Tailgating is popular and public intoxication (the cheaper your seats, the more intoxicated the crowd around you). Jimmy owns all the concessions at his concerts now, and nothing is cheap, but what the heck. You might notice some odd herbal smells, but mostly not that kind of crowd. The median age at Buffett concerts is close to that of ER.org, a mix of clean cut folks wearing Hawaiian shirts and hippies that refuse to let go.

Have fun, and watch out leaving/driving, you're surrounded by drunks up past their bedtime. We usually leave before the encore to beat the traffic jam (you've probably heard Margaritaville or Fins plenty already).

Thanks Middy. Bought a parrot t-shirt for me and a Hawaiian shirt for DH. Our friends are driving and know the venue so we should be OK. It's ironic this is happening the day after settlement on our old place. Kind of like the final chapter in our old life turning over.

If there's anything more entertaining than attending a Buffett concert when you're inebriated, it's attending one when you're stone-cold sober. He really knows how to put on a show.

Aww, y'all are going to have a blast! And congrats on this being the start of great new happenings in your life!

DH and I went to see a Buffet show as our first official "date" way back when. Buffet had announced he would do a special benefit concert in one of our tiny little Charleston venues (Nords it was County Hall, where they used to have the wrasslin' matches) after Hurricane Hugo. I knew tickets would go fast, so I was prepared to stand in line from the wee hours to get them for myself and a friend. Turns out that DH was my friend's roommate and stopped by to give me money for him and a girl to go with us. We talked a bit and he brought me some coffee, and the next thing you know, we were going to the show together!

And we've also seen him play at the high school football field down in Hilton Head years ago, but never a big stadium show like you will get to see. I have heard walking around and checking out the tailgating is the very best part! I still listen to a lot of his music, especially the older stuff, but my all-time favorite song is Cowboy in the Jungle. A few lines from it comprised my senior quote in high school, and are still pretty applicable now!

Not sure if you're referring to Hawaiian shirts or hippies, just consider mine a haole POV...

We do agree that Jimmy puts on quite a show, no matter how many times you go IMO.

One more Buffet concert and I won't be able to count them all on two hands. Best one ever was in Raleigh/Durham at some college stadium. It was dug into the ground and when the heavens opened up about half way in, the bottom of the stadium ended up being calf deep in water and the grass seats people near the top were taking turns coming down in shopping carts... good times.
I second the recommendations to dress up (the more the better) and enjoy the hell out of the tailgate party... if the concert starts at 7, show up at about 10 am. We were sitting drinking at a concert in Toronto once at lunchtime and got to see Jimmy fly in with his amphib. plane and land right in front of us... you'd think the Pope had arrived by the reaction of crowd.
And congratulations on your imminent change in Attitude. Gonna change Latitude as well ?? ha

To be a non conformist, I went to my last Dead concert in a Izod shirt. I was wearing tie-dyed, when you had to dye it yourself.

Best? First off, outdoors is better for sure.

They've all been a blast, but the most eventful for us was at Legend Valley near Columbus OH. Jimmy had a large volcano constructed sitting on a trailer out in the crowd, probably about 10 feet tall and 10 feet around at the base, made out of who knows what. Near the end of Jimmy & the Coral Reefers playing "Volcano", the constructed volcano began erupting (fireworks I assume). Great fun until the whole thing caught fire, like a massive bonfire right in the middle of a pretty dense concert crowd. Fortunately, everyone was able to get away from it sufficiently and if burned itself out pretty quickly (might have been big paper mache?). Could have been a disaster, but as usual at a Buffett concert, a good time was had by all.

The crowd was just ready for the next song (and boat drink)...no problem mon.

DW and I went to a concert at Soldier Field in Chicago that had Sting and the Grateful Dead on the same billing (hard to believe to begin with). DW [-]used to worship[/-] loves Sting so that's why we went. After Sting's set, before the Dead hit the stage, we walked out. We gave our tickets to a couple of (evidently) near-penniless Deadheads camping out in the parking lot. They were most grateful, and stupified - 'why are you leaving man?' Heresy I know, but we were never big Dead fans beyond their most well known tunes...

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming on Margaritaville TV (Jimmy owns that too)...

That's too funny! I also remember making tie-dyed shirts. We used Rit fabric dye and rubberbands to tie the shirts and create the pattern.

The tricky part was to have multi-color tee's. We also did the reverse with bleach and blue jeans.

Been to a couple of JB concerts in the past 2 years. The concerts were great entertainment with lots of families in attendance. I don't think you need to do anything special or "prepare". I found it helpful to listen to Jimmy Buffett songs all week ahead of time, but even that is not necessary.

He's a great entertainer. You should not be able to tell your concert apart from any of the numerous videos on YouTube.

I'll venture a guess that he doesn't retire because too many people depend on him for their livelihood. He's a business and employs dozens of folks who would be jobless if it wasn't for him.

I saw him way back in the 70's, the Margaritaville tour. He put on a fun show even though he had just broken his leg and was in a cast. So he sat on a stool all night long but got all of us to dance and sing along.

I'm sitting in the car reading this and listening to music when wouldn't you know it "A Pirate looks at 40" comes on. I saw him in Hawaii once when I was in the Navy. I was in the Transpac crew (we were flying the planes to the PI instead of riding the carrier). Had bought the tickets and were looking forward to some great partying. But first we had to do some carrier qualms in the morning meaning we had to fly to the carrier which was doing some training ops and make a couple of traps and then fly back to Barbers Pt. Well once we made a few traps and were about to depart, the squadron CO said the needed our plane for a couple of other crews to make some traps and GASP we might have to spend the night ONBOARD THE SHIP!!!!

I was literally on my knees begging to go back to shore!! Luckily the other crew made its traps and we were able to get back to shore with about an hour to spare. BEST show I ever saw.

I saw him at San Diego state's outdoor amphitheater, close to 30 years ago. They had looser rules than they do now, about coolers, etc. You could bring food/drink in as long as it wasn't glass. So Buffet fans came with coolers full of wine coolers, margarita's, etc. Bonnie Raitt opened. She got a huge ovation when she came out and she quipped back "I know why you guys are so happy - I see those coolers!". She was right. That was a fun night. (Hate to say it - but Bonnie was funner than Jimmy)

Settlement on our home sale tomorrow (knock on wood) then Buffett Saturday. This is kinda like the final step in letting go of our old life.
