The Class of 2014

5/2014 is my official date since that is when I became fully invested in retirement. However, i've been technically retired since 2013 but was drawing unemployment for a long time.

Welcome to the Class!

Ta Da........!!! That's all she wrote! My last day at work is now history.... The farewell luncheon went well, I collected my plaques, certificates, thank you letters, coins, medals, tie tacks, hat pins....hugs from my boss (female) handshakes, pats on the back & attaboys. Also questions about what I'm gonna do all day...lol! I've been retired 1 1/2 hours so far, and I'm not bored yet! Time to live it up! :)

Congrats Marty! It's been fun watching you go thru the process at the same time I have.

It's a sweet time of life to take this step.

Congrats, Marty, from one who preceded you (by one day). Yesterday was a strain with the luncheon and all the farewells, but I made it through. Co-workers have been texting and emailing me all day, wondering what I am doing. Well....it was busy after I had my leisurely breakfast: post office, gas station, bank, grocery, hairdresser, mall, a walk before dinner.

I had an unexpected spur of the moment invitation today to visit some friends at their beach house in Bethany Beach, DE and I am leaving on Sunday. Couldn't just up and go when I was working! I think I am going to like this lady-of-leisure gig...

So far, I've received invitations to visit friends in Panama & Hawaii! Both are longtime friends & former co-workers that I have a lot of history with. Yeah, I think I'm gonna like this retirement thing!

Marty...You worked for it and earned it. I have discovered that life does not slow down when you retire. It's the other way around. I was planning on doing volunteer work, but don't have the time for that so far...

On my last day, I as offered another job at our agency (w-h-a-t:confused:). I politely declined. It is a non-union job with lots of aggravation that nobody wants or stays in long. If I wanted to keep working, I would have stayed where I was. In any case, I can't earn more than $15,000 a year in W-2 income or my SS survivor benefits are reduced. I was button-holed a second time and agreed to volunteer in late October at our agency's annual health fair. That is, if I am not traveling in late October.

CONGRATS! I am very glad for you.

You can "officially" take me off of this list. I've committed to the Class of 2015. MegaCorp may still tap me in the next round of layoffs sometime this year (which wouldn't bother me at all), but my management has enticed me enough to stay for now. We'll see what 2015 brings.

"Farewell", and congrats to all in the class of 2014!

My wife and I are going on holidays soon - upon my return to work I will give notice. I am giving notice July 15, with the intention of being done with the company on Sept. 15. I have a feeling they are not going to see 2 months notice as enough. It will be an interesting conversation. There are many who will be blindsided by this.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

Congrats Marty! Trips to Panama and Hawaii would be a great start to retirement.

Congrats as well Marty. Enjoy the freedom FIRE brings.
No alarm clock.......ahhhh

Congrats Marty!

Now, go to your profile and fix it...still shows you're gainfully wo#rking. Of course, you're retired, so take your sweet time!

My countdown is officially on and I can't wait! The weather was beautiful this AM and sitting on my deck enjoying my coffee and listening to nature makes me that more excited for MY Independence Day!

Oh yeah, Happy Independence Day everyone!!!

Well folks.....all I can say is Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! While I don't feel any different just yet (Friday, holiday) I expect that once it really sinks in I'll wonder how I ever found the time to work! lol

Congratulations Marty - well deserved.

I gave my resignation notice on Wednesday, 7/2. I'm on vacation from 7/3 - 7/13 and will then have three weeks of work left with my last day on 8/1.

Although I've run the numbers ad nauseam, it will still take some adjusting to not earning an income - I've been working since I was 16.

I have a long bucket list and am ready to get started!!!!

There are days I don't think DH is not ready for us to RE-nothing to do with finances. He puts on a mean act. And then there are moments like this...I was recalling an annual work thing (that did not go as good as it should have gone) and said what I think should happen next year to make it better. Without a missed beat, DH said, "What do you care? You are not going to be there." Hallelujah this is really going to happen. And it stills look we are done during 2014.

I've been looking at these ER lists for a few years with a fair amount of envy.

To finally see my name on on it is kind of surreal. These next several months are going to crawl by. :(

Kayak...For me looking back, the time just flew by. I hope it will for you, too. You will be making plans and getting things in order at work and it will be here in the blink of an eye.

Marty...Can you get the free space available hops? You could save a ton doing that.

Dave, yep, I can fly space-a if I want to. I figure I'll take a look into that sometime. Also gonna look into AFVC Armed Forces Vacation Club deals too. I hear there are some good deals to be had with resort, cruise & other leisure activities. Also fully expect to utilize military billeting, at least to some extent, while we're driving around on our US road travels.

I know what you mean. I had been on the fence for a while (OMY was in full effect) and I was still 'sort of' enjoying my j&b. But recently there have been lots of little things that have become infinitely annoying..as I call it: death by a thousand cuts. So, I went in last Monday and dropped my retirement papers. I am 'on the clock' until November 23 and it feels like it's going to be forever!!! I think that's funny since 2 weeks ago, I had talked myself into doing OMY.

Decided to turn in my notice yesterday. Last day is 7/18. Put me down for class of 2014.
