I had lunch today with a friend that was visiting Texas from Florida. While he doesn't live in the Villages, he indicated that a former colleague of ours retired there. I told him it was my understanding that the Villages is one of largest, if not the largest, adult community in the country. He indicated that it also has the highest rate of STDs anywhere. Any truth to that?

Been discussed thoroughly in media and forums. Based on what I gleamed, the story is overblown, half baked, not very reliable, ....

Why wouldn't you see the highest rates of STD in a population that is older? They have lived longer and have had more partners than a population that includes children and teens.

It is like saying the highest rates of heart attacks are in retirement homes...duh!

I bet the Villages has the lowest rate of teen age pregnancy.

Well sure they do, because of rule #3 from the link below.>:D

Rule #3: Persons under the age of 19 years are not permitted to reside within The Villages but may visit for a maximum of 30 days per year unless an exemption is granted.

Those are interesting and impressive facts

Doesn't conventional thinking infer that with age comes wisdom? At least for me its been a long time since my brain was in my pants:D

Maybe the problem lies in the fact that a significant amount of older married men spend too much time on the golf course, and a certain segment of opportunistic men who don't? That explanation sounds better than too many "throw the keys in the bowel" party. In that age band, the randomness of chance would be way too scary for me! :)

I formerly was in marketing for a diagnostics company, that specialized in STDs. Historically, the south eastern states have been high inSTDs. Most likely due to the high number of colleges and the large low income populations. Since the advent of Viagra, retirement communities have become a new pocket of high rates of STDs.

Do you reckon they combine their parties with their colonoscopies? :D

Makes sense if they feel they are running of time :)

Thought this article was interesting---from the British media:

Ten women to every man, a black market in Viagra, and a 'thriving swingers scene': Welcome to The Villages, Florida, where the elderly residents down Sex on the Square cocktail in 'honor' of woman, 68, arrested for public sex with toyboy | Mail Onlin

Don't know how sensationalized this stuff is. The Villages wouldn't be my kind of place, but it seems to be a great place for those who like to party...
Kind of difficult on her old man back at the ranch in his wheelchair, but I guess a woman's got to do what she has to do.

I read an analysis of how large an excess there must be of either sex before the too abundant group gets very accommodating. I can't remember, but it is only fractional, not 10:1 or even 1.25:1. Whoever feels like they might not find a partner when the music stops can get pretty desperate.

But why would there be a black market in Viagra? I doubt it's hard to get an Rx, and then go to the drugstore. Black markets arise in only conditions of scarcity.

Ha

Maybe they are being smuggled in from another country. Pfizer has really been given the guys a "stiff one" in the wrong orifice over prices. They want over $30 for one pill! You can get them for a fraction of that price in generic out of country. Hmm if I ever need a retirement job, peddling generic black market Viagra would make a guy a fortune in the Villages. Especially if you knock on the guys' doors that have recently bankrupted themselves buying a bottle of them in America. :)

Didn't know about this. Still, if it made the difference between intercourse and no intercourse, not a bad deal. I suppose it is fairly near to going off patent?

It was supposed to go off patent several years ago, and somehow they got it extended through 2020. I remember the explanation sounding fishy to me. I also remember when it came out, it was advertised for less than $10 a pill. I hope it goes off patent before I will ever need it. I talked my friend into a free sample a while back. Wow, it's got some pop to it. Unless you absolutely need it, I think it should be left to the 20 something's who have the desire to roll in the sheets all night long. I need my sleep!

I think we should have contest to promote the Villages by coming up with a catchy Ad phrase, something along the lines of:

Come to the Florida Villages, where Chlamydia spreads faster than dysentery through a cruise liner. Virginia maybe for Lovers but Florida is for Fornicators.

Sorry, couldn't help myself and good for all those in the Villages that are still sexually active.

I just watched one of those Cops shows and they arrested a guy in AZ for selling black market Viagra. He was young, but was selling it to old dudes in Yuma. Must be a large retirement community down there. The Cops were saying that lots of the Viagra was coming in from China and after testing was found to have a lot of heavy metals in it.

Better to go to CVS and pay the $30.

I would think that is a good thing and they should market it under the name "STEEL ROD" instead of the wimpy Viagra.
