What did you do today? 2016 version

That law depends on the state. In a lot of them, if you're in the crosswalk but not on the side of the road the vehicle is on, they don't have to stop or yield. No matter what, I wouldn't bet my brain pan on them following the rule.

I was using the crosswalk, and had the "walk" signal. Oncoming car, turning right (so would go in front of me or hit me) didn't look like they were going to stop until I started yelling at them. Then she gave me attitude because "she had a green light".

Today I took the shutters down and started painting them. We are having a new front door installed on Saturday and I'm taking the opportunity to update the colors. Currently we have gray vinyl siding with a blue-ish gray door and shutters; the new look will be a dark red door and black shutters. It's perfect painting weather.

My 99 Suburban had "slow switching" front O2 sensors. I had, some years ago posted in this forum the royal PITA of replacing these sensors as DIY.

I took the beast this afternoon to my favorite shop, where after much torching and unprintable in this fora many hail marys by the mechanic they were removed and new ones installed.

Was glad to have the shop make a profit on the parts and labor, and being a spectator.

And best of all, this morning spent two hours figure skating.

I took the beast this afternoon to my favorite shop, where after much torching and unprintable in this fora many hail marys by the mechanic they were removed and new ones installed.

Was glad to have the shop make a profit on the parts and labor, and being a spectator.

And best of all, this morning spent two hours figure skating.

This is best way to remove O2 sensors because of rust, in some cases they can remove with a breaker bar but heat does wonders.

Last night we went to the Old Town School of Folk Music on Lincoln Avenue (the second and "new" space) to hear Bonnie Koloc, opened by another Chicago folk music legend, Ed Holstein. What a beautiful voice she has--and six amazing Chicago musicians on stage with her. She was always one of DH's favorites in the early 70s so I surprised him with the tickets (I am missing the music gene myself). A great evening and interesting to see how she and her music has progressed--not a nostalgia or traditional "folk music" show at all, very contemporary.

We saw Bonnie Koloc last year at The Metropolis in Arlington Heights. I was concerned that it would just be a nostalgia thing, and that her voice could not be anywhere near what it was in the 70's when I saw her many times.

But I checked youtube, and recent clips showed her voice to be in fine form. Her voice, and show, was just amazing. Glad you got to see her too.

Although she is known as a 'folk music' performer, in one interview, she said that if she sat at a piano instead of playing the guitar, no one would associate her music with 'folk music', and I think there is a lot to that. She really does a mix of styles, much of it far more 'jazzy' than 'folk'.

Had a yard sale with my neighbor. Just a trickle of people throughout the day. Net for me was $93. BUT I got rid of several bulky items that were taking up space in the garage, met a lot of nice people, and caught up with my neighbors. Pleasant way to spend an afternoon.

Finished installing the newly-painted shutters, and had the new front door installed. My next chore will be to paint the inside of the door. It would have cost almost $300 more to have the door factory painted on the inside. Since there was a high probability that the factory white wouldn't match the white already present on our interior trim work, I decided to take care of the painting myself.

I'm happy with the result.

Thanks. After 23 years it was time for a bit of updating. Next I want to re-install railing between the porch posts. We had railing when the house was built, but it rotted out 10-12 years ago. At that time we didn't have the money to pay someone to replace them (or the time to DIY) so we've been rail-less. Since DH seems to be in a spending mood (and we have the funds), now is the time to do things.

This weekend we saw the band Big Voodoo Daddy in Napa on Friday. We usually just see rock bands but they were kind of a fun change of pace (swing music) and put on a cute show right out of the 1920s. Saturday we saw the play Peter and the Star Catcher. It was also a good weekend for library book sales. I bought a couple of bags of new to me books, cooking and other hobby books for me and mysteries for DH.

Frustration today. Got a notice in the mailbox Saturday about a certified letter, with instructions to pick it up today.

Showed up at post office, where they couldn't find it after half an hour searching. They wanted to try tracing it on the computer, but the tracking number was scrawled illegibly on the notice and nobody could read it. They took my phone number and said they would call IF they found it.

Went home and after a lot of trial and error entering guesses at the tracking number, I finally got it. Letter came from some small town in Wisconsin I'd never heard of, and I'm completely clueless as to what it could be. I gave that info to the PO and we'll see if that helps them find it.

These things burn me up because if it hadn't been Certified, I would have had it Saturday.

That's a lot of wood! I just got my flue pipe connected to the wood stove today. I was hoping to get by on 2 or 3 cords of wood this winter.

When I was a teen, we heated the house all winter with ~10 cords of wood. Dad would cut down trees and make firewood, it was up to my brother and me to load it into the trailer and pull it up to the house. Then it had to be split and stacked. Periodically thru the winter my dad would toss a bunch of firewood into the well of the Bilco door and we would have to stack it (again) in the basement. Dad liked to say "this firewood has warmed you many times before we burn it" referring to all the sweaty work involved.

I usually avoided the winter stacking chore because I was so busy with school and sports during the week, but by the weekend my brother had gotten in trouble somehow and his punishment was to stack all the wood by himself. Hee hee.

In some parts of the world there's "face cords". They're 4'x8'xwhatever length the piece is as opposed to 4'x8'x4' in what is sometimes called a full cord. Depending on the length of the pieces 10 face cords can be about 3 full cords. Course I am frequently wrong..

Applied for SS using a restricted application so I can collect on the ex wife's account while mine continues to grow. I fall just within the 'grandfathered' group for that 'feature'. I will spend most of the extra money on wine and women , the rest I will waste.

I retired back in March from MegaGovt and today went back to the office for the very first time since I left for a retirement event/lunch for a former co-worker.

It felt a little strange walking into a building that I had worked at for 30+ years, especially since I had to wait at the front entry to get a temporary security pass. I had left work a full year early (very quietly) due to exercising a minor loophole in the pension plan, and today a few people told me that they were considering doing the very same thing.

Had my routine colonoscopy today. Oh Joy!

Had one ~ 14 years ago, when I had some specific intestinal issues that needed to be looked at. So I knew the prep was the worst of it. But this time, the prep, while unpleasant, wasn't that bad (Prepopik, only 5 oz to drink night before, and morning of). Even the clear liquid diet didn't annoy me much.

I mentioned to the anesthesiologist how last time (and a few years later when I had my wisdom teeth out), I was just out of it for the rest of the day. He said meds are better now, I shouldn't be so groggy afterwards. He was right, night and day difference! When I woke after the procedure, I really wasn't groggy, no memory issues (no worse than normal anyhow), nothing. I feel clear headed and fine.

But with the previous intestinal issues, the doctor said he planned to do some biopsies, just to evaluate any damage. Hmmm, I wasn't thrilled with that. Need to check back in a week, but he didn't find any other polyps or anything on inspection, so that's good.

Hopefully, I can enjoy a Cubs win tonight!
