What did you do today? 2016 version

Kahn, how awful. Praying for for your full recovery. I contracted a different type of superbug 4 years ago and it was an agonizing 4 months. Scary stuff.

Yesterday was a pleasant sunny 55 degrees so I decided to go for a drive and see how the harvest is coming along. I was on a gravel road driving by a cornfield with a combine working in it. All of a sudden a small flock of turkeys came running out of the field so I stopped to let them get across; just as I was ready to go again 3 white tailed deer came running out. I thought I would wait a couple of minutes to see if anything else was in there and was rewarded by seeing a black bear also fleeing the field. All in all a nice day.

That sounds way cool!

I'm giving our sunroom a deep cleaning. Today when I took one of the screens out to clean the window, the trimwork/mullion at the top fell out. It's all rotten, and was only being held in by the screen. I put a call in to the contractor who built the room. We need to fix this, I'm just hoping that there will be some warranty coverage from Andersen (it's a 400 series window).

Perhaps I would've found this earlier if I were a more diligent housekeeper...

I'd guess that Anderson will assign the problem to the installation (and I'm guessing they'd be right).

See what your contractor says first - they might need to buy you a new window.

They do that. Had a couple of ten yo 400 series rot. Seems like there was a 7-10 year warranty on them, that was just out of date. Anderson was easy to work with. Thinking about $200.

At DW's insistence we had a guy come out to pressure wash the exterior of the house and the front porch. The porch is on the north side of the house and gets mold on it because it never sees sunlight. I have a pressure washer but between my knee, shoulder, and cardiac issues I wasn't going to try to use it.

When he as done and I wrote him the check, I mentioned that I had a pressure washer and wondered if he'd be interested in buying it, saying it was powered by an 11 hp Honda engine and was belt driven. He wanted to take a look and we ended up with the agreement that he gave me back the check and took the pressure washer. Fine by me, the market for used pressure washers is pretty small and in the end I figure I might have gotten $50 for it at an auction after fees, this way it's in the hands of someone who will actually use it and I got a value of a lot more than $50.

And it's one less item of "stuff" that I'd never use again to deal with.

Sounds like you made a decent trade, Walt.

On another home project that fell into my lap, I just recently rebuilt a Subaru (engine) gasoline fueled pressure washer I got for free because an old guy couldn't get it started. $12 for a carb kit and she is screaming like a burlap bag full of cats! Now to do the driveway before winter sets in.

A twofer. Workout at the Y, then after breakfest went figure skating.

Took DW to her new primary care physician. She was out to the ER at week ago for a migraine. They did a CT to be sure she hadn't had a stroke. They noticed her brain had atrophy too advanced for her 59 years. The ER doc suggested a neurologist appointment, scheduled for a couple of weeks out. He didn't have any opinion on what it was and said it might not be anything.

Of course consulting Dr. Google brings up terrible results, dementia, Parkinson's and other horrible things that no one wants to hear. Then just as the ER doc said, it could be normal for her.

We'd stayed pretty calm about the unknown, just wait for the neurologist to let her know what's going on. Today this new doc just blurted out, "you probably have dementia". While possibly true, she's not a neurologist or specialist. DW probably took it better than me. Not really, she's having a panic attack as I write this.:(

We are settling into our new to us winter condo in Florida. Arrived Tuesday and unpacked the car and got just enough groceries to carry us overnight and installed the cable tv and internet. On Wednesday a mega $450 grocery shopping trip to get stocked up. DW is becoming a Goodwill queen... I dropped her off and went and washed the car and then returned and we shopped together... dropped almost $100 there today but got a nice deal on a Keurig and a shredder. Still some to go but we are settling in nicely... sort of reminds us of our early married life when we were moving every couple years... but this one was easier because all the furniture was in place (we bouthg the place turn-key). Life is good.

Sorry to hear that. Was the diagnosis just from looking at the CT or did she test for dementia in the office? If there was no specific test (for dementia in the office) the diagnosis is questionable. Likewise with Dr Google, who will fill your head with fear, probably better to stay away from it. The neurologist is the preferred next step here.

Thank you very much.

The diagnosis was just from the CT. She's been on meds for anxiety for a long time. Last year I was concerned about memory and asked her psychiatrist his opinion. He tested during a routine visit and said she had no problem.

Khan, I'm so glad you are out of the hospital! Probably not as glad as you and your SO are, though. :D Hope you are feeling better too.

MRG, I am so sorry to read about your DW's diagnosis. What a blow, for both of you. Maybe a second opinion from a top notch neurologist specializing in dementia is in order.

Khan - I'm glad to hear you are out of the hospital.

MRG - Sending some good thoughts your way. I hope further testing gives you both better news.

Today was just a housework, grocery shopping and binge watching Dark Matter on Netflix kind of day. I thought Season 2 of Dark Matter was really good.

Last night we went to see Alice Cooper at the Warfield. I guess Alice isn't an ER kind of guy as he is still rocking it at age 68.

Last night we went out to dinner, then headed over to an Irish pub for a pint and live music - fiddle and pipes. First time I've heard uilleann pipes, and it was a most enjoyable evening.

MRG, Don't pay attention to Dr. Google or Dr. Blurt-it-out. Wait for the neurologist to review the tests and give your wife his findings.

We were going to go vote early but when we got to the courthouse the line was out the door to the sidewalk so we just kept on going and went to the gym, followed by a grocery store run. This is the third day of early voting so we'll try again next week.

Bought Halloween candy for the kids and are having a devil of a time staying out of it. DW made me hide it in the basement, I put it in the bottom drawer of a tool cabinet. If I die before Halloween it'll be months, maybe years, before she finds it.

Ordered one of the new MacBook Pro laptops for DW. Her old MacBook Air got so slow after installing the latest MacOS that it was an easy decision. Nearly six years for a laptop is pretty decent.

I find it fascinating that the new machine is so vastly more powerful and capable, yet weighs virtually the same (3 lbs) as the one being replaced.

Spent 3 hours at clinic, with IV of some new antibiotic.
