7/15: 123!

I'm confused b/c I am so stunned at this reading. Happy, but stunned! It makes me wonder if the scale is off. However, this is the second day in a row at 123#. I am now teaching a dance class that lasts 1.5 hrs 2 nights a week, but at the same time I have been too tired and busy to lift for the last 2 weeks. I have continued on my diet plan (1400 cal per day). So, perhaps I am losing more fat, but have lost a little muscle mass, too. I dunno. My measurements all continue to go down...I think this is the most successful I have ever been in my attempts to lose weight...getting pretty close to "skinny" jeans and my college weight (121#)!

Haven't posted in awhile:

July 15th: 234

Definitely a plateau. Got bike tuned up, will start riding.....:)

GOAL: 20 lbs by September 15 (6.6 lbs/month)

6/15/09: 179.0 lbs
7/01/09: 177.5 lbs
7/15/09: 177.0 lbs

Slow start here. Tough to cycle in this summer heat. It requires getting up very early with the birds to get some cycling in. But I did that Sunday morning, on a solo ride and got in 32 miles. I thought going solo or beating the heat or staying motivated to do the whole 32 miles would be my hurdles. Nope, it was being chased down by 2 mean pitbulls with angry teeth just inches from my suddenly fast pedaling feet. They bolted off an unfenced farmhouse on a lonely, seldom traveled road, hauling ass across the street just to chase me down.:(

Hoping for a better week!

I used to do that with my cycling team about 20 years ago. There was a farm with two MEAN dobermans. We all knew they would chase, so we would call "attack"!!! When we were about 300 yards away, and would be doing nearly 30 mph when they saw us.....those dogs had no chance.............

Wow, I certainly cant get up to 30, but I think I got up to 15 in a quick sprint. I am in my first year of cycling and just a few months from recovering from a nasty back injury. So, my ability to sprint away is not ideal. But, I did give them a pretty good run. HA HA HA HA.

Seriously, what can a cyclist do to protect themselves from these attacks, other than hoping to be able to out cycle them?

DH carries pepper spray with him....pretty effective, but you have to be quick on the draw!

Good idea SG. I had another suggestion from a friend. She suggested to take along a kids squirt gun filled with vinegar/water. What do you think about that suggestion?

I honestly don't know - it may work...it would be kinder to the dog, for sure (I feel bad when he tells me about having to pepper spray a dog). However, I would be afraid it wouldn't work, and I'd lose a chunk of my leg in the process of testing it out.

I used to try to walk in my old neighborhood, but the dogs coming out at me scared the dickens out of me, so I gave up on the walking. It really made me mad that people did not control their pets...several came at me very ferociously!

GREAT work, looks like you are on real roll, keep on doing what you are doing

That really sucks. I used to carry a pepper spray while walking in the neighborhood but never had to use it. We ride our bikes through neighborhoods every week but have never had a problem fortunately. I don't know that doing a quick draw with the spray would be safer or more reliable than just trying to "sprint" away.

Yet another minor fluctuation week. Still working on strength, not as concerned about the weight. Yesterday was the same weight but a lower fat percentage. Today was 201 with a 17.0% reading (high water retention). Not sure if today's reading was high from yesterday's sushi or Dairy Queen...

I dunno what you're doing, but if you could bottle it you could make a bazillion dollars...What a great feeling it must be. I'm proud of you

Thank you both so much! It definitely feels pretty darned incredible.

Well, someone did already bottle it, I'm just following the plan! We signed up to follow a diet plan designed by a pretty famous nutritionist (Joy Bauer, from the TODAY show). We've been pretty darned religious following it.

Also, as I was saying earlier, I've been working out like a crazy woman. In addition to my regular job, I am now teaching a dance fitness class at the local Y 2 nights a week. It's 1.5 hours long each night, and I'm pretty exhausted afterwards, but happy! It's a blast. I also have to practice my routines on the weekend, so there is extra dancing (and calories burned) there.

I was also lifting weights 3 days a week up until we went on vacation a few weeks ago. I had to stop when I got back due to work committments and feeling too tired (gee, I wonder why). So, some of my recent weight loss may be muscle due to not lifting for 2 weeks now.

I'm hoping to really turn this into a lifestyle diet we can follow. So far, so good...but I know maintaining the loss is the real challenge.

Now that is the trick to maintaining your great achievement. I weighed in below my target weight this morning at 174.5. I've hit my target at 175 this last 2 weeks, but never on a Wednesday :(

You inspire us all, keep up the good work. :flowers:

Every week I have an excuse. This week is that my hydration level is all wacky from not eating normally due to wisdom teeth being extracted.

I might be at about the point to take weight loss seriously again...

I had to get to that point, too. You definitely have to be mentally ready to go at it 100% (no drinking or eating out for weeks on end is NOT easy!) I am sure once you set your mind to it, you will be in attack the fat mode! :)

7/29: 120#!!!

:eek::eek::eek:

I have now way surpassed my goal. I do think this is an outlier and water loss related to dancing 1.5 hrs last night. However, I was 122 for 4 or 5 days, then 121# yesterday. I would guess my real weight is 121.

This diet combined with my high intensity dancing is kicking my butt!

My dance class was taped to be on t.v. last night...very exciting and nerve wracking, but fun! Hopefully, I won't be shown making stupid workout faces, LOL.

Finally making a bit of progress. It helped that I didn't go to the Cheesecake Factory this weekend like I did last weekend. Exercising is on track. I'm not making too many changes to the diet. Just trying to avoid having that one bad day that sets my entire week back. And thanks for the well-wishes! I'm feeling like I'm in pretty good shape -- P90x upper body lifting routines 3x/week plus martial arts 4x/week.

Congrats, simple girl! Nice big loss. Not sure if any of the following is fuzzy science or real, but this talks about sudden weight loss: Of Whooshes and Squishy Fat | BodyRecomposition - The Home of Lyle McDonald

Ron, that's a nice, steady weight loss you've got going there. Just a couple of aberrant data points.
