We were at the visitor center at Joshua Tree Natl Park recently, and one of the staff told us about this new company https://www.hipcamp.com/
It's a sort of Airbnb for campers on private property, with listings running the gamut with amenities, pricing and locations all over the US. For example, there is a ranch in northern California near hiking and recreation opportunities. You can pitch your tent on a grassy area with tables, and toilets, potable water, and hot showers in a common building nearby. 40 dollars a night-3 sites available.
Other listings are bare bones, no potable water, and a platform to set your tent up on. Toilets are mandatory for anybody to list their property for people to camp on. Another listing was a tree house in a beautiful area near Mount Shasta, CA with meadow and mountain views. You get the idea.
Anyway, was wondering if anyone here has booked with the company and would care to share their experience? We have identified several possibilities. It seems like a great concept, especially as public campgrounds are increasingly crowded, booked or otherwise undesireable. We intend to continue car camping self contained, as we don't like the noisy campgrounds, but this may be another resource for finding desireable places.
