Had an issue with my smartphone middle of night (I know, bad habit as nothing good happens after 2 am).

When to check out a Facebook group I'm in and the Facebook app crashed (closed unexpectedly). Poking around, reading and trying usual possible resolutions like clearing out the cache and data, uninstalling and reinstalling, signing out, turning phone off and on. None of them worked. Very oddly is Facebook only crashed on this group. I could browse this group while searching. I could look at other groups I'm a member of. But once I tried to sign in to this group, FB would close.

About ready to give up, went to the Google Play store and decided to try Facebook Lite. Reading about Facebook Lite vs Facebook an article said Facebook Lite is more for those with cheapskate, low capable Android Moto phones (That's me! :)). So, after installing the lite version, now I'm good to go with that FB group without crashing .

I probably should have used Lite for me cheap phone in the first place .

Facebook Lite is an Android app designed for low speed connections and low spec phones. It has been available outside the US for a few years, and now it’s available in the US, too. Here are the differences between it and the original Facebook app.

Facebook’s main app weighs in at 57 MB on my Motorola Moto E4; Facebook Lite is a mere 1.59 MB—that’s about 96.5% less space. Facebook Lite is designed to use less RAM and CPU power, as well, so you’ll get a smoother experience on a cheaper and less powerful phones. Facebook Lite even works on older phones that are no longer supported by the regular app. If you want to check it out, you can grab Facebook Lite from the Play store.

I'm back to using regular Facebook.

Whatever was causing the problem cleared up and FB Lite was too slow to update news feeds. Oh well, worth a try.

FB Lite doesn't allow me to edit posts once I've made them, which is a bit annoying. I don't have the full FB app on my phone, so for edits, I log in using the Chrome browser.
