Wow, I just came to this site from about.com frugal living where I do a lot of lurking. I also spend quite a bit of time at savingadvice.com. Any other money saving sites that people would recommend?

When I bought my new washer and dryer, the man that installed
them told me not to use softeners or dryer sheets. Instead put
three tennis balls in with the clothes while they are drying.
You can use them over and over for months on end. This
eliminates waiting to add softeners at the right time and the
expense of softener and/or dryer sheets. I have not used dryer
sheets or softener since and my clothes are nice and soft.

Now that seems really strange. I wonder if the tennis balls are giving off some chemical that coincidentally softens clothes in the heat? But if that's the case then they would sooner or later run out of this chemical. So, it's got to be some sort of physical process. Wouldn't the rubbing of the tennis balls on the clothes wear them out (clothes and tennis balls)? Inquiring minds want to know!

I don't have a clue..but being a avid tennis player, there is no way my new balls are going into that dryer! Also, I can only imagine the racquet they would make..

This is just too easy to pass up.

I'd keep my balls out of EVERY electrical/gas/mechanical appliance, no matter how old they are or what sport they're used in.  (No, I'm not referring to the appliances.)
