Hello! I will be retiring next June at age 60. Part of me thinks it would be fun to work for a temp agency doing admin/clerical work (things I don't have to take home with me in my head!!!), and part of me thinks it would be fun to work from home on my computer. Does anyone know of any LEGIT work-from-home options? I have a cable Internet hookup, so that is not an issue. Any ideas/leads would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi, Larry. I already do some Ebay selling, mostly things from around the house and some things I inherited from my late mother-in-law. Are you talking about a regular Ebay business, with drop shipping, etc? I had thought about that, but I would imagine it would be tough to take time off, as you would have to be keeping up with your sales pretty much full time.

Hello Linkerbink,

Ebay is certainly an option.  We sell on ebay and also now have a website.  It works out real well.

As for taking time off it is pretty easy.  We turn off the ebay store and put a note on the website that we will not be shipping til x-date.

Hey, Tomcat... Thanks for the info. I know of a number of books on ebay selling that I might take a look at. It would be nice to be able to ease into this before I actually retire...might even be able to leave this job before next June!!!!

Do you play poker?

With about 20 hours of play per month you can clear $300 or so in bonuses from various sites. If you really put in the time you can make $1000+ a month from easy bonuses at the lowest limits (.5/1 blinds).

There are also online casinos that have bonuses as well and this is a steady income generator for me too. Many of these are truly no risk bonuses in that you deposit $x and you get $x to gamble with for free. If you play BlackJack using basic strategy there is a .01% house advantage which allows you to clear the bonuses with little risk.

Accounting,

I can't believe it's that easy. Afterall, they don't call it "gambling" for nothing. Yes, I play poker, but usually for free at the fun sites. I win a few and I lose a few. 'Splain to me how you can be guaranteed to make money. Thanks.

Don't worry, the feeling of 'thinking it would be fun' will pass.

That's a relief! I was having some of the same aberrant thoughts lately.

If you are a bit artistic and computer literate you could try some web site designing.

Perhaps this is a crowded field now. But I helped a neighbor create a site for selling his house and a friend make a site for her music services, and I immediately had people wanting me to do their sites for money.

Now, if a friend asks for help I say "I'll help you, but only if you promise not to tell anyone."

Hi, TromboneAl. I maintain the website here at work, so I am familiar with FrontPage. I didn't give that a thought simply for the reason you mentioned...the crowded field. But thanks for the idea.

Well a good place for information is www.bonuswhores.com or the "2+2 forums" which is the largerst poker forums on the net. Once you get there you can look at the Internet bonuses section for current bonuses.

For example (and this is only one of many example) Party Poker has a reload going on for July that works like this:

- $100 bonus
- to clear this you have to play 1000 raked hands (so a 10X bonus) over 10 days (this will take about 2000 hands of play to clear as not all hands are raked)
- a raked hand is defined as any hand that is raked and for a hand to be raked the pot has to be 5 bucks
-lowest limits are .5/1 limit hold'em
-generally you can get 65 hands per hour (I play 3 tables at once so over 200 hands per hour)

Other sites only have 5X bonuses so you would have to play 5X the bonus amount you are getting. For a $100 bonus like above you would need to play 500 raked hands.

There is easily $2000 out there for sign up bonuses at the lowest stakes. Generally speaking you are looking at a rate of $12 per hour, but I find it is fun so I don't mind the low hourly "wage". Once all the signups are done you can look for frequent reload bonuses. In terms of risk, it is very difficult...no make that almost impossible...to actually lose money on any one bonus. I have done over 75 bonuses and have lost money on one and that was a $27 loss. The risk truly is minimal and I am the most risk averse person I know.

On the casino side of things, one of the no risk monthly recurring bonuses out there is InterCasino.

Deposit $100 and they give you $100. You play with $200 and if you lose their $100 simply cash out and you have lost nothing. I have taken about $1200 from InterCasino in a span of 6 months. The hourly rate on casino bonuses is around $50 per hour. There are also much riskier bonuses out there that have a positive expected value but with greater risk comes greater rewards. There are many who are doing casino bonuses that make 2 or 3000 a month but I am not willing to take on the added risk.

accountingsucks, it's not quite as easy as you describe. Once the casinos catch on to what you are doing, they can play games with your money. At least that was my experience. They started to hit me with transfer fees and be very particular about how I could take out or transfer the money. In addition I have looked into some of the casino software, and lets just say, its not very regulated at all. In the end it works out to maybe 15 bucks an hour, with up to 6 weeks to get your money out, more of a pain than it's worth IMO.

Did you see the new bill that bans online gambling in the US, by way of forcing credit card companies not to allow payments to online casinos and sportsbooks? It sounds like it has a chance to pass, and would cripple the online casino industry. I wouldn't want to be the owners of partypoker.com right now.

There is a website called http://www.earlytorise.com that has many part-time business ideas such a Copywriting, Travel writing, Operating a web site for profit, and they offer courses, workshops and continuing reinforcement through daily and weekly newsletters.

I subscribe to their daily e-letter and have purchased their Travel Writing offering. Very good quality. But it requires a serious commitment like any successful endeavour.

Hope this helps.

PS They think eBay is OK but that you should have your own web site for repeat customers and credibility.

I hope to work from home when I retire. I'm a few years away from ER and I am an artist. My skill level is not where it needs to be, so I'm painting just about every day to be able to approach galleries later.

I'm not suggesting you do this. I'm just saying that work-at-home ideas are a dime a dozen. The ones that really seem to work for people are the ones that you develop based on your own skills and interests. I know a woman who does transcription work at home. It started as an office job. Then she realized there was no need to leave the house to do her work. Then she took on new accounts.

A lot of successful ebayers are using ebay as an extension of something they were already doing at home. Drop-ship schemes are mostly scams.

Assess what your skills and interests are, and avoid schemes.

Yes. My daughter's MIL alwys bought & sold antiques, but now does it from home using eBay. Her husband was a full-time high-stress corporate controller who was laid off and now does accounting for a friend's business one day a week and also keeps the antiquing books. They seem very happy.
