Just a quick hello to introduce myself and to say howdy as the forum asked that I introduce myself before I post ... so hello everyone.

Hubby & I have been semi-retired for five years. Hubby was pretty much forced to take early retirement with a lesser pension and so we are kind of just making it. So here I am on this board trying to learn how to make our lives better.

We live in Ontario Canada and would love more than anything to be able to escape the winter and spend it in Florida. We can dream can't we? LOL

Will post more when I become familiar with the board. Nice to meet y'all.

Welcome to Early Retirement! I think, since it wasn't voluntary.... My father-in-law had to take early retirement also, he didn't like it initially but has adjusted well. He has a sign on the fireplace mantel - "Attitude is Everything. Pick a Good One". It doesn't take gobs of money to have fun and enjoy things.

Perhaps moving to Florida is possible? Looking at some real estate sites may give you an idea for either buying or renting. Also perhaps a search for "alternative housing" may open some ideas, since housing is usually people's biggest expense.

Trying a Google search on "thrifty living" "thrifty lifestyle", etc. may give you some ideas on how to make resources go farther. Some of the ideas are a little "over the top" for some people, like dumpster diving for furniture in an apartment complex, others feel it works for them.

Welcome from another Ontarian. Luckily I do not mind the winter although I hated driving to work in snow. Also I am in that fortunate area south of Hamilton that misses the snow belts. (thanks Grandpa) The only time we get lake effect is if there is a cold south west wind over lake Erie. (now I have hexed myself and will get a ton of snow).
