Saturday, June 12, I ran the Utah Valley Marathon in 5:25. Not exactly my PR of 2:58 (in 1981) but hey, I did it. Next up: Spudman Triathlon (Olympic length) on July 31. What marathons or century rides or triathlons have you done recently or are in your plans?

Congrats Scott! Good to finish no matter what the time.

This winter/spring I ran the Rocky Raccoon 50 miler in Texas, Bel Monte 50K near my home in Virginia, and Lincoln (NE) marathon. I've just started a more structured 18 week training program for the Steamtown marathon in Scranton PA in October, trying to qualify for the Boston marathon. A 3:30:59 or better qualifies me in 2011, and a 3:35:59 qualifies me in 2012 since I'll be in a new age group. I think I have a decent chance at a 3:30.

Good luck, RunningBum! You are a wee bit younger than me :D. My BQ time is 4:15. I did qualify (3:45) and run Boston in 2004 during the horrible heat wave (4:20-ish). It was a great experience. I hope to qualify for Boston again. I just need to lose 25 pounds and train more!

Congrats Scott! A completed marathon is a huge accomplishment regardless of the runner's age or time. I've run 5 marathons with a PR of 3:33 in 1981. Chicago marathon 3 times. Most recent was Grandma's marathon in Duluth, Mn in 1995 at 4:30. I don't have any planned now, but my SIL (running partner) is now retired so we may have to try one.

My first post-retirement marathon was also my first-ever marathon.
Back in 2004, and I was happy to finish in 5:30.

Since then, I've done two more full marathons and a half-marathon, then my left knee and right ankle pretty much gave out on me, forcing me to give them lots of rest and making me ridiculously out of shape.

Since the start of this year, I've begun to get back into running again, very cautiously. I'm at the point where I can do an easy three miles without problems, and I have hopes of eventually doing a marathon again, or at least a half.

The great thing about that first marathon is that even though my quads hurt so much by the end that I was almost unable to get in and out of my car, I still was so elated at simply finishing that the runner's high went on for a day or more.
