We will see if it has legs.

People are pretty fed up. I like the idea. Not Left, Not Right, Forward!

The lack of cooperation in Washington is our biggest political challenge.

I think that tax compromise shows it at its worse... can't agree on solutions so both sides just grab money and sink us further in debt. Yet none of the long-term underlying problems are being addressed.

This will be mocked, and if it shows the slightest chance of taking hold, will be presented by various other factions as 'undemocratic', 'socialism', 'fuzzy thinking', or some other unpalatable choice.

The real money for campaign contributions and commercial PAC operations is all in taking positions well off center. Moderation just doesn't rake in the big bucks.

You don't put a name on your party, you get a name.
No one calls themselves "The Christian Right" or "Radical Left",

No Labels = Generic Party or Know Nothing Party?

You know the partisan hacks and ideologues on both sides are going to say these are just wishy-washy, unprincipled people who don't have the backbone to stand up for what they believe in.

Plus the media will help. Full-contact "hate the other side" style politics is good for their ratings. The more it resembles Jerry Springer, the better they like it. Rational, respectful discourse is too boring for them.

They'll initially be vilified by the media as fringe wackos, then wined and dined by lobbyists and a have well-oiled campaign funding machine within a year if this concept is embraced by the middle; all to make them beholden to their PAC contributors. Unfortunately, that's the way our system works.:(

Change it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the fall that's all
But the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed ...

There's nothing in the street
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye ...

Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around me
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday ...

Meet the new Boss, same as the old Boss

The Who. "Won't get Fooled Again".

THE WHO - WON'T GET FOOLED AGAIN LYRICS

Check out all the lyrics - amazing.

Thanks. I've been singing the wrong words to this song for 40 years.

I think they might succeed in unifying the country--in reaction to the silliness and non-substance of the concept. This is a rerun of what we saw two years ago--"Hope" "Change" but without any troublesome details on what the "change" was "from" and "to".

I don't think folks will be so easily fooled again. Now they want to know the intended course. There's a deep difference in how people define "forward", and far fewer people will now be willing to hand the keys to someone on a vague promise to move "forward."

What does that even mean? Give a big push for more support of the Status Quo?
Not even close. The status quo is two sides of a two-party duopoly hating each other too much to talk to each other like adults.

I frankly am a bit weary of the labeling of those who aren't dedicated partisans as wishy-washy folks who believe in nothing and who never believe in taking a firm stand. It is simply not true. But there is something to be said for picking your battles and not engaging in a toxic, intransigent "they are for it so I'm against it" attitude. We see that on Social Security, we see that on tax policy (they won't seek a reasonable compromise so they "kick the can" for two more years and forget about the deficit in the meantime), we're likely going to see that on health care. It sucks and makes me fear for my financial future.

Let's not forget how the media who cover politics profit from making both sides hate each other. It's good for ratings when it more closely resembles Jerry Springer than Walter Cronkite. They have 24 hours a day to fill unlike the network news; might as well give red meat to our base to keep them tuned to a "news" network all day.

Of course the RNC and DNC will ridicule it. With their poor track record what else can they do?

I think the message from this group is: There needs to be more cooperation and collaboration to solve the problems... instead of political fighting with stalemate being the goal.

Anybody disagree with that sentiment?

We will see what happens... but any group that is willing to put pressure on the politicians to work together and deal with the problems has my moral support! But I won't be sending them a check anytime soon! Of course, I am not sending checks to the others either. :)

Yes, I do. The issue isn't about cooperation and collaboration. It is about identifying the problem, its cause and solution. That is where the differences are.

How would god and the devil "cooperate and collaborate" to solve their differences without compromising their principles?

How should have the allies and Hitler "cooperated and collaborated" to end the war after the invasion of Poland the France without compromising their principles?

How should have the USA Vietnam anti-war movement and US Government "cooperated and collaborated" to end the war without compromising their principles?

If you do not agree with me about this point you are not cooperating and collaborating.

I believe Obama already ran on this. IMO, his biggest applause line was "We're not the Blue States of America. We're not the Red States of America. We're the United States of America!" He also tried a version in his first SOTU speech, something like "I don't care about making government larger or smaller. I care about making a government that works."

But then on Monday morning, congress critters believe their best chance of retaining/increasing power is by playing to their base.

The whole idea pretty much ignores the fact that people have some pretty disparate ideas about how this country should be run. As if we all pay allegiance to our party and don't really have any of our own opinions. Then, supposedly, we could all meet in the middle and compromise. I'm not buying it. In my mind, stuff like this is one extreme or the other trying to masquerade as moderates by shedding their name. Some stuff people aren't going to give in on.

Agree 100%!

I think no labels is on to something, although their message and communications skills are pretty pathetic.

To me a good example is this lame duck session of Congress. By and large all of the legislation was passed in pretty bipartisan fashion, and I basically agree with all of the stuff got passed as well as the stuff that didn't. In general stuff that gets 2/3+ of the Congress votes I support. If for no other reason than I hate to see the divisiveness caused by party line votes.

I had misgiving about the tax compromise (mostly cause I don't think we afford the money) but to me the greatest thing about it was the far left and far right both hated it. The other legislation also was good.
START- This stuff isn't as important as it use to be, but the Russian still have a ton of nukes and making sure the keep track of them is good.
Don't Ask Don't Tell. Getting rid of obsolete policies is progress in my book.

DREAM act failure; There maybe a compromise here about allowing kids who have been raised in the US to become citizens but it should be part of a larger immigration debate.
