A few days ago, my boss approached me about my 4/1/2014 retirement date. He asked that I stay on at 2 days a week. I said no. He said - How about 1 day a week. I said no. I said - How about a monthly retainer and I don't do any work, just provide assistance through phone and email. He didn't answer. I have my replacement ready to go,(been training him for 1.5 years), but I don't think the boss is comfortable with the fact that my replacement doesn't have the client relationships that I have. And neither of them want me to tell my clients that I'm retiring. The boss hinted that they could stop paying my monthly stock buy back payments if I quit in April. The next few months will be interesting.

Congrats! Stick to your guns. Hopefully, you have more leverage than your employer; shame it almost always seems to come to that. Let us know how it works out for you.

Well, I vested in my pension and 401k goodies to the tune of $45k today. This was the last major piece that needed to fall into place ofr us, so I am all set now. This is finally starting to feel real.

I'm not going to make my Jan 3rd retirement date. I've decided to accept an offer to continue to work a little longer (date to be determined at the drop of a hat) in exchange for a transfer to a recently vacated position to the town where my wife & kids are, thus eliminating my weekly commute 130 miles away for work. For the last ~ 5 years, I've maintained a separate apartment just for work, while my wife & family lived in another state. I visited on weekends. I still plan to retire soon, but this change will allow me to reach some specific financial goals that I was planning to take care of post-retirement. Now I can do that without using $$ that are specifically designated for retirement. I will remain in the Class of 2014, because I don't intend to work any longer than that.

I've been working in Lufkin for the last 5 years. Been driving back & forth between there & Bossier City, LA all that time every weekend.

I am in. I just dropped out of Class of 2015 and am joining the Class of 2014. I don't have "One More Year Syndrome" but "One Less Year Syndrome." My retirement date is 10/14/14.

Going to be spending a lot more time on this website learning all I can.

57 working days left for me as my last day of work is March 28. CAN"T WAIT.....

2014 is my target year with three possible dates. My 401k will be vested on 4/11 - I consider this to be a critical date. Being on payroll as of June 30th qualifies me for my annual bonus - a nice to have. Finishing out the year on 12/31/14 will pad the bank account and make DH happy. Goal is to get to 4/11 and decide from there. I'm not sure if the year will drag or fly by?

Ok....my date has changed once again.... I've been "persuaded" to work a few more months, but at least I'll be in a better location....same state & town as my wife & kids. So...January '14 is out. However...it will still be SOMETIME in 2014. Just using the few extra months to add to my TSP. I will NOT work one single day of 2015!

I can't tell all of you have thrilled/excited/elated I have been since I made the decision to move my date up by 14 months. (Actually God told me to do it but I don't think we are allowed to talk about faith and prayer on this web site). My health was being ruined by stress and He said "Get Out, your work here is done, but stay until you turn 54!"

I know that 2014 will be the BEST YEAR EVER for everyone of us.

We will be "set free" to follow our dreams, our callings, our missions, whatever that may be to each one of you.
