Cheap Beer of Choice

I like Busch Light. Actually like the taste. Also I use it to make an economical version of a Bloody Mary - Beer, salt, pepper and Spicy V8 Juice. Or you can salt a glass, mix beer and Rosie's lime juice for a redneck Margarita!

I'm a light med drinker myself. Usually Miller Lite, Bud Light or Coors Light. I was in the grocery store the other day and Busch Light was on sale so I bought a 12 pack. Taste just as good as the other light meds IMO.

Haven't been a beer guy for 15-20 years. Did see that Walgreens is coming out with their own private brand called "Flats something", and it will sell for $2.99 a six-pack. Both sons-in-law are big beer snobs, so I'll be stocking a few sixes just to mess with them. Back in the 60's, a case of 24 returnable bottles of Falls City cost us 4 bucks.

Actually I bloat too easily on beer these days.

Couple of years ago, some brewery ran ads to educate us how to drink beer: the point was to pour a big head and let it settle off before drinking, that is, decarbonate first. Not sure if the ads are ongoing.

Their focus groups must have told them that lots of us find more than one beer or so to be too much to stomach. I have to pace myself with beer if I don't want to feel bloated for hours.

Me too. I have to pace myself with any kind of alcohol anyway as I'm quite a lightweight.

My cheap beer of choice is Trader Joes' "Simpler Times". It comes as lager or pilsner (I prefer the lager) for $2.99 for a six-pack. It would last me a long time if my SO weren't a whole lot better at drinking than myself!

I'll try to beat braumeister to the punch - pilsner is most definitely a lager.

As he pointed out earlier, lager and ales are determined by the yeast and style of fermenting. Pilsners are specific styles of Lagers (and an interesting history at that, from Pilsen Czechoslovakia a glass-making town). If a beer is simply labeled "Lager", they just aren't going further to define a style.

It would be like saying "red wine" without specifying still, sparkling, varietal, or any other information.

The days of cheap good beer are gone forever, IMO. However, the closest I can come to it these days is a case of Dark Horse High Gravity Lager, for $8.99 a case of 24 twelve ounce cans. It's the cheapest beer in the store, and that makes it taste soooooo good. :)

Understood, but that's how they label it.

Yea Brewer, I've been drinking Genesse Cream Ale since 1968. Can still by in in my town. On sale - 30 cans for $13

Budweiser American Ale is surprisingly good for about $10 for a 12 pack here in Fl. Otherwise Yuengling or Killians for about the same price. If Sam Adams is on sale, I'll buy that. Michelob Pale Ale also isn't bad. Miller Lite, Bud Lite, etc. just don't cut it for me. Before I moved to FL, Saranac Pale Ale was my go to beer, but it costs a fortune ($9/6 pack) for someone who LBYM.:)

Used to drink cheap, but now it is one of those luxuries that I allow myself. Blue Moon on draft is one of my favorites.

Maker's Mark, Knob Creek, and Woodford Reserve are my favorite bourbons. Relatively expensive, but oh so good......

Genesee Cream Ale!! I had forgotten all about that stuff. My FIL would keep that around and sometimes something called Wiedemann - in little glass bottles.

I liked the Genesee, but the Wiedemann tasted a lot like water, as i remember.

The first time I met my future in-laws, I was served Wiedemann. We were sitting outside - in Maine. A sweat bee (or so they told me later) was apparently enjoying the taste and stung me on the lips when i took my next swallow. My lip swelled up something awful. I was making a great impression as a potential DIL- a beer swilling girl from Arkansas with a huge lip.

genesee beer tasted like water the cream ale was very different tasting.

i've never been much of a drinker but when i did i liked Genesee Cream Ale in cans. now this is what i got used to drinking and when i had it in bottles once i disliked the taste! i would never prefer any beverage in cans as the metal imparts a flavor to the liquid but in this case it was what i got used to and preferred genny in cans.

recently i heard that rheingold started to sell beer again here. i got a 12 pack, they only come in cans here, for $8 and change. that's cheap beer! it was pretty darned good and reminded me of the early 60's when i was able to weasel about 2 oz of beer from my father who seldom drank. too bad it wasn't in the old cans that required a church key to open and were made of heavy metal not aluminum. ah the good ole daze.

Yeungling Black & Tan.

Back in the 70s I could get a 6-pack of something called Brown Derby on sale at Safeway for 88 cents -- a six-pack! No typo.
Worst hangover ever.

Normally stick to the lights in the interest of keeping the ol figure pretty,:yawn:and in that category I like Mich Ultra and even Busch Light (hey I'm in the Qzarks.) However, during better times, I try to finagle a load of Kona Long Board Ale. In a pinch, Land Shark will do also.

Drank a bunch of Little Kings and MHL 7 ouncers back in the day.

For "lite" drinking, usually Bud Lite, though it really ain't all that "cheap".

Yeungling Lord Chesterfield Ale for me. I thought I did good getting it for 3.49 a six pack on sale a few months ago, just finished the case I bought. Now finishing up a six pack of Key West Sunset Ale, picked that up on sale for 3.99 a six pack. The Class VI store (Beer/Alcohol Store) at Patrick Airforce Base has pretty good sales once a month or so.

...Woodford Reserve are my favorite bourbons. Relatively expensive, but oh so good......

Woodford Reserve is currently my favorite bourbon; but, in keeping with the cheap theme of this thread: Ten High is a great bourbon for mixing in my opinion; and, I haven't found many cheap whiskeys that I like.

Bud Light in a 30 pack is a staple in my house. I also home brew (but not as much as I would like to). A friend's staple is Schlitz - I like Schlitz as well - just never see it or think to look for it when shopping for beer.

When it comes down to it I tend to buy whatever is on sale and is decent.

I like this one and I believe it's 6% too!
