What was Your Workout Today?

Not much activity lately in this thread, must be a Summer break. Any way, yesterday at my gym, Demarcus Ware (Dallas Cowboy) did 315 lb hang cleans so violently, this is what happened to the poor bar:

I ran 12 miles. It was humid today, so it turned into a 9 mile run with a three mile "sorta walk". I ran outta steam. Also I am going walking with the DW tonight. It is only about 2 miles. I sleep well.

How'd you like to be able to do that?

I know I would. BTW, a lot of really impressive exercisers on this board. Congratulations to all.

Do me a favor DFW, and make sure DeMarcus continues his strong workouts and doesn't get hurt...I have $1000 to win $1200 that the Cowboys cover 8.5 wins this year. I will need him healthy and strong to reach 9 wins!

DeMarcus is in fantastic shape and is one Cowboy I don't worry about even after shoulder and elbow surgery. The guy that gives my nightmares and holds us back, aside from Jerry, is our mega million $ QB.

And absolutley Ha, I with you in wishing I could do that, but I'd even settle for looking like I could do that:cool:

Amazing!

There was a special on our local TV news about a group of 90+ year old men in the New Orleans area who lift weights together at a gym and are getting a lot out of it. Very impressive!

I haven't been posting on the thread because my posts were beginning to sound the same. I continue to lift weights on MWF. I was still at 17 tons, then cut back last Friday due to a virus that really knocked me flat. I am mostly over it now and working my way back.

It is harder for me to lift weights in this hot, humid July weather, even though the gym is reasonably well air conditioned. It is comfortable enough in there for just sitting around, but more air circulation would sure help while lifting if one is to exert much effort. I wish they had one or more of those 10-foot high heavy duty fans aimed right at the weight lifting machines.

I hope I can keep lifting indefinitely into old age. For me it has become more hobby like vs something that one should do.

I hear ya on that hot weather, my gym is well air conditioned, but coming out of the gym to a hot car leaves a lot to be desired. Glad you are feeling better.

Just started lifting again yesterday. Also started mixing 1/4 mile sprints into my 3.5 mile walks. Still biking and kayaking, but kayaking on lakes is not much of a workout.

6am this morning, had a beautiful 1-mile swim in the Boulder (CO) Reservoir. Water temp is high 70s - bathtub baby!

Will do a little strength training this aft. Then done.

My "workouts" lately are related to putting 7200 sq ft of lawn in my front yard. I'm doing the main trenching with my mini backhoe, but I'm having to do more corners and odd spots the old fashioned way (pick & shovel). About 90 min of the old fashioned stuff today. Wore the HR monitor. Tried to keep it between 120-135 but got a few boosts up to about 150. In addition, I've been pouring concrete mowing strips, floating the ground by pulling a homebuilt 8' float around and around (by hand), etc. Still walking an hour or so a day with the mutt as well.

Still have not been back to the doc for results of MRI on the suspected ACL and medial meniscus tear...but thankfully there is no pain at the moment.

Ran 13.1 today... my goal this month is to break 150 miles running for the month... 77 miles so far so pretty much on track...

Yesterday I did the Boulder Peak Triathlon. It lived up to its reputation as one of the toughest Olympic distance Tris in the country - especially the bike - a 15% grade in the mountains outside of Boulder, CO. Ugh - recovery today is a bit rough. This was my first time doing this distance.

Last Friday I decided I was feeling better and able to return to lifting 17 tons, so I did. Since we lift on MWF, I had two days to recover.

Today I did it again. It was sure challenging for me but I did it and I feel great.

Sprained my ankle 2 days ago. So no workout except for a bit of stretch. Intend to go to gym for stationary bike riding or some kind of equipment not requiring much use of the ankle but gives a cardiovascular workout. I heard the rowing machine is a good choice. Any recommendations?

Swam 26 laps (.8 mile) in 44 minutes this morning. When I can do the same in 42 minutes it is time to add a lap.

I think when you are retired you/we are allowed to slack off a bit ;) I took a month off traveling. Getting back into it is um interesting. Funny how muscles forget so fast.

Mine went like this:

12 oz curl.... Sip
10 oz curl.... Sip
8 oz curl.... Sip
6 oz curl.... Sip
4 oz curl. ..... Sop
2 oz curl. .....sip

Back to the fridge to workout my other arm!

Still nursing a sprained ankle. Workout today in the gym was 10 minutes stretch, 20 minutes brisk walk, 20 minutes rowing and 20 minutes stationary cycling. Did work out a sweat!

After lifting 17 tons each MWF throughout July, lately it has been so unbearably hot that I wanted to do something different.

I have added the elliptical cross-trainer at the beginning of each workout during the past week, and I am lifting just 12 tons after that. The elliptical has always been very hard for me and I can't stay on it very long yet but I am making steady progress.

I have to admit that adding the elliptical probably wasn't the brightest idea for cooling off in the middle of a heat wave... :D

The elliptical is my favorite machine. It never occured to me until someone pointed it out that you can reverse leg direction and get at a whole different set of muscles.

I think legs are the most important piece of a workout. Without them, how would you play the steel? ;)

For years, I used the elliptical as a 5 minute warm-up before doing my lifting and it did get the blood flowing. For a change of pace, I am now on the treadmill, doing a 3.5 MPH walk for 2.5 minutes and then a 6.5 MPH jog for 2.5 minutes.

When I want to get a little more fat burning, I put the treadmill on a 21 degree incline, and walk at 3 mph for 20-30 minutes.
