It's Wednesday weigh ins! 2007-2022

It sure seems like one of the benefits of ER is having the time to devote to health and losing weight. That's definitely true for me. I retired at 210 and and now down to 180. I ate so poorly while working. Eating out every meal is deadly.

So I'll dip in, retired Feb 2015 @ 276, now sitting at 263 will a bum knee, so focusing on diet and we shall see how that goes.

I am still maintaining a 40 pound weight loss . I am currently 129 and have halved my bp meds .I have had to buy new clothes twice so I hope I just stay at this weight .

DW and I are maintaining for about a year now. MyFitnessPal says I've logged food for almost 500 days. Together we have dropped 110 pounds.

We've both bought clothing twice along the way. I'm off all medicine, eight daily. She's down three.

Retired on 2.1.15 at my highest weight of 216. Currently at 200 with a goal of 185. Had a pre-diabetes scare, so am eating low carb and working out regularly.

Go for it! I was 215 when I retired 8/2012 Now at 193 and feeling great. We run 8 km a day and still eat huge amounts - no question it is the running plus end of work-stress snacking that does it. Before retirement doctor wanted me on Crestor - now all the numbers are great without drugs.

Love hearing these inspiring weight loss stories! Congratulations everyone!

I've been pre-diabetic ever since I was placed on several rounds of huge steroids for another issue. That was back in 2012. I've so far been able to keep my body from progressing to diabetes via a low carb diet (and continued exercise). I even test my own glucose levels to see how much I spike from various foods - helps keep me on track. For some periods of time, my a1c has dropped to normal, not even pre-diabetic, which was really exciting.

I have been really bad since moving, losing my scale, and not testing with my glucose monitor every now and again. That really helps me get back on track when I start eating more carbs. Will test today to keep myself honest! :D

Good luck!

On 1/1/2016 I was just a bit above 210. I am now at ~180. Everything is good from a health perspective, and much better.

Nice work Senator. Health is wealth. How did you do it so efficiently?

It got chilly here in Florida so I brought out my jeans and once again I have to buy a size smaller . This weight loss is getting expensive .

I'm now back on track with exercise and following a low carb diet. Was 128#, now down to 126.

I was 124# Wed morning, so down 2 more pounds.

Unfortunately, this morning the scale said 128#...4# gain from going wild on Thanksgiving day! I know I didn't gain that much overnight, probably lots of water retention, but still, not a good sign!

We have leftovers in the fridge...gonna really have to restrain myself! :nonono:

Wednesday weigh in

192. Coming to terms with weight loss is mostly food not exercise. I'll continue to exercise but my focus has to be on a balanced low calorie forever term diet.:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Finally worked my way back down to 124# this morning. Thanksgiving splurging and being bad about leftovers was SO not worth it!

Finally under 200 @ 198.6. My doc says to get to 185 from 216. Making progress the old fashioned way with diet and consistent exercise.

+1
I have data that tracked part of my weight loss last year. For the twenty pound loss here's the breakdown.

From the calorie deficit of diet, the math says that sixteen pounds of me disappeared(56,000 calories). During the same time, I burnt 14,000 calories from walking, for a four pound loss. Keep in mind that the calories burnt on many exercise estimators are grossly exaggerated.

Yes weight loss is mostly from the kitchen, toning, strength, endurance come with exercise. Both are great but it makes me sad when I hear people say they can't lose weight because they're too out of shape.

First check in...two months after a heart attack (suffered at the gym, no less) and two weeks into early retirement I've lost 12 pounds. It looks and feels like more because I've stepped up my work-outs and overall physical activity. Other factors are leaving behind the cubicle lifestyle and occasional fast food lunches. I told my doctor that addressing my high blood pressure and cholesterol would be my primary focus once I retired...and I almost didn't make it. Live and learn (fortunately).

Good for you! And I'm really happy to made it to early retirement and can focus on your health!

Got a stressful job (pushed into promotion) and let myself go starting about three years ago, been out of it and down to part time hours for about 9 months now and started losing weight this year. 6'2" and 216 this morning. 195 is my initial goal.

Many of us have lost weight after retiring. It took me a year but I lost 40lbs and have kept it off for 2 years. So glad you survived your heart attack.

I'm down 40# from January last year. I was down 48 pounds, but some crept back on over the past few months as I had to cut back on running due to injury...slowly working my way back with the runs, and getting those 8# back off.

Thanks all for the kind words. I have to admit ER really opens up the possibilities for improving one's health. We are fortunate to live in sunny Southern California with four-seasons access to beaches, mountains and lots of farmers markets. Now we finally have the time to frequent them all. Our new RV is (hopefully) on the way now so we'll add more travel to our list of activities very soon.

172 and 5'9". Down from 225 when I retired 4 years ago. A heart scare from a cardiac calcium score test was a motivation to lose the last 20 pounds. I was as low as 161, but have settled in the low 170s. My doctor seems pleased.

Retired at 210 lbs 3 years ago. 6' tall. Got down to 190 last spring, then started running and paleo diet and dropped down to 166 by mid summer. Then the doc told me to gain weight. So I cheated on the paleo diet and stopped running. Now I'm up to 184, feeling better, lifting weights occasionally, biking instead of running, and the doc is happy.
