Yesterday, actually. Walked from Fort Mason to Fort Point along the San Francisco Bay. About a 5 mile round trip. Then went back home to the East Bay (have I said how much I hate San Francisco traffic?) and booked a trip to Key Largo and Key West in early December.

One of my bands played Friday and Saturday night at a local place. We were well received by the crowd and the owner gave us a bonus and asked us if we wanted to play New Year's Eve.

Yesterday we had farewell party for in - laws at their former home of many years. US Army and US Air Force representatives came at separate times, and presented flags to oldest and youngest children.

When we lived in California, youngest daughter had a horse and two Rhode Island Red hens. Snails didn't have a chance with those hens.

I've always used a small dish of beer in the garden. Snails and slugs are attracted to it, and they crawl in and drown. Simple and cheap.

Beer didn’t work for me. I put the beer jar for the pill bugs, it didn’t work for them either. I guess California snails and pill bugs prefer something else, maybe MJ.

Even as a pet?
Emotional support animal. They're quite relaxing, move their bodies and the head stays still. Very relaxing to watch the chicken's head.

I think after some googling it may allow as a pet, up to two, but in a coop, but how is it going to eat the snails if it’s in a coop. Plus we don’t have space for the coop even, just a tiny coop. That’s just not right for an animal. I was hoping to let it run free.

Our chickens wouldn't stay in the coop I built with all the snails out there. They slept with DD's quarter horse in a stall. Plus, we had eggs, and more eggs, and more eggs......

Look at chicken tractors or sleds. Most are likely too big for you needs but could be scaled down. They are a coop that moves and your emotional support chickens can eat through the floor.

Sound like a wonderful live. Fresh eggs everyday. I’m envious. But we have to stick to our suburban smallish lot.

At least I picked two ripen Fuyu persimmons today, it was wonderful exploring my garden, until I saw a big spider web with a brown recluse’s eating something, could be a bee. So I retreated to my house, having some homemade chicken soup to help with my soul.

Drink the beer, and smoke the weed, then you won’t care about the snails...

Sounds good. Outdoor stuff may be too exciting and unsafe for you. Maybe start by working on a variety of indoor chicken soup recipes?

We went to the Springs early morning. It was 35° when we left. A little chilly to step outside in a bathing suit and get wet. We found a nice pool at 99° at least some of it was. I found a ledge with hot water pouring over it that was very warm. It's kinda neat with all the steam coming off the water in the cooler air.

On the way home we stopped in for a Mexican breakfast complete with bloody Mary's. Time for a nap.

I’m making Apple crisp cobbler this afternoon, I’m waiting for it to get cooked properly since I’m cooking and experimenting with cooking our grill. After that I will serve it with my favorite ice cream. Preparing me to read the Economist article of China vs America. I need to have the right frame of mind to finish these types of articles.

Edit: I finished the article, boy, did I learn a few new words. I need to read more often.

We used to have problems with pill bugs. Something kept nibbling at the seedlings, eventually cut them off at the ground level. Suspected the pill bugs or sow bugs, but on the Web it was said that they were harmless. Until one morning when my wife woke up early and went out to catch them red-handed concentrating around the seedlings.

That was when I started to deploy Triazicide, and that is really atomic bomb to the pill bugs.

But the snails, oh man they are voracious. Just after one night, all my seedlings were gone.

Yeah, I know they do damage to my young seedlings, however, I’m an organic gardener. I’m not going to put anything in my yard. But interesting lately, I have not seen them.

The only animal I will kill with vengeance is rat. Very successful animal, so I’m sure I won’t wipe them out.

Returned from Red Cross deployment to Hurricane Michael in Florida. Keep these folks in your prayers. It’s bad. Very bad...

Not today, but a few todays back.....after an enjoyable three weeks in France we boarded our repositioning cruise in Barcelona on October 18, where we met up with our good friends from Missouri whom we hadn't seen for four years.

October 19 was DW's 66th birthday, spent in Cartagena.

October 20..…Malaga. Halfway through the day I began slurring my words...our friend, a retired nurse, said TIA and rushed me down to the ship's doctor.

("Wow", he said, "You don't look 76")

Ran a whole battery of physical tests, all of which I aced, (except for the temporary slurring), and a number of blood and other tests which were all within normal parameters.

Because TIAs are often a precursor to strokes it was off to the hospital, MRI and more tests...all good.

So now, like a laboratory rat, I'm still in the hospital for 'observation'... ship's long gone, only seen the ER doctor, (ward doctor didn't show yesterday, being Sunday), and there's the obligatory language gap.

Dealing with our insurer by phone, and unsure of our status.....if I'm discharged can I fly immediately..etc.

Reading online recommendations to avoid recurrences:. Exercise, don't smoke, maintain a healthy weight, eat well...

I already DO all those things!

"Bah, Humbug."

Update: Just had a visit from the doctor, who reran a bunch of the physical and breathing tests, all good.

She said that none of the other tests revealed problems, but that something caused the TIA and they want to identify and fix (if possible) the problem.

She'll schedule an MRI and a scan of the cartoid arteries to check for scarring from the TIA.

Maybe we'll be out of here tomorrow.....maybe.

..

Good luck, Nemo2.
What an unpleasant end to a great trip, but it sounds like you're in good hands.
