Any Travel Plan for 2019?

Visited three Virgin Islands Jan/Feb. A week each. Leave mid-May for Scotland/Ireland/Amsterdam for two weeks. November will be two weeks in Loreto, MX. In between is camping.

Being an infrequent flyer, I didn't know Sunday flights were more expensive and just overpaid a whopping $356 for two flights from NYC to Las Vegas.

I just thought rates had gone up in the last 2 years from when we flew last and also because it was a non stop flight. Ironically, we usually always would fly a Saturday to Saturday in the past.

Live and learn. Damn- that would have paid for our rental car.

You usually have a 24 hour window to cancel or reschedule a flight. I’ve booked the wrong date way more times than I’d like to admit! :)

Unfortunately this ticket price game is constantly changing.
Some airlines show ticket prices by flight date so you can see the variations. Google Flights is a decent way of exploring cost variations if you have schedule flexibility.

Keep your chin up. I've had three prostate biopsies so far, and they were all negative. The way I look at it, even though they only remove small samples, it still reduces the size of the thing and that's a plus. Enough biopsies and it will be all gone!

Overkill is not always a plus. ;)

If one is not lucky, his prostate has the ability to grow more than enough to make up for what is taken out.

My niece in LA invited me to SC homebrew festival the first weekend in May. Her BF is a homebrewer, and they go every year. Camping. They have camping stuff for me, and afterward, since she doesn't use her apartment much, I even have my own place to stay! Booked cattle class air. Was tempted to go first class, but the planes I found weren't the "feet up" kind, so wasn't worth it. Instead, booked all daytime flights, so I can get up to prevent DVT without rousting sleeping people. Any of our many homebrewer members here in Southern California?

Have not told DW yet but doing some work on a late summer/fall trip to Greece and potentially a side trip to Isreal and Jordan for two weeks.

So far I have been to Mérida and Progreso, Yucatan, Mexico and Palm Springs, CA. Looking forward to visiting Padre Island/Corpus Christi, TX this spring. Headed to Washington DC in September.

What attracts you to Greece? Where would you go there?

We would probably go for the history and not so much for beaches.

Yes! So excited! We're going to New Furnace and Air Conditioner!

Greece is one of our favourites, as is Turkey. We have visited Crete several times as well as quite a few of the islands. Hope to do more island hopping. Ionian islands are on our list...Corfu etc.

We love the food, the people and the islands. Turkey is much better for beaches though. This will be our fourth our fifth or sixth visit.

DH and I are driving to Boulder City Nevada near Las Vegas for a 3 day canyoneering class. We enjoy desert hiking, and see this as a way to extend the possibilities for canyon exploration.

Brett, my kids and I enjoyed Israel a lot when we were there a couple of years ago. Tel Aviv is a lively city and you can’t beat the history of Jerusalem. I only regret we didn’t have time to explore more. I recommend going if you have the chance.

Just finished making all the reservations for our first big post-retirement vacation in September. We will fly to Salt Lake City, rent a car and drive up to Grand Tetons and Yellowstone, where we will stay for 7 days. Then we'll drive across southern Montana and Wyoming over to the Black Hills and fly home from Rapid City, SD.

37 years since I was there...loved Jerusalem, enjoyed Akko, Haifa, Masada, Yafo.

Found Tel Aviv, (at that time), to be basically just another city.

Looking at a month in Greece ( includes time in Crete and Cyprus) then two weeks in Israel (including a few in Jordan). Early days yet.

We rented a car and went to Masada and stopped at the Dead Sea on the way back. Definitely a good day trip.

We enjoyed the boardwalk in Tel Aviv. Plus, the city never sleeps. We explored the old town in the middle of the night (jet lag), which was a lot of fun (but not much happening). It is more on the tame side historically speaking, but the beaches/water was great, as was the food. I guess it depends on what you’re looking for. I was there for work and when that ended, we went to Jerusalem.

Doing our 'bucket list' ER trip in fall - African Safari to Tanzania for 2 weeks.

Has been a dream of ours for many years..seeing the animals in their natural habitat..now that I'm ER'd and DW will be by fall..Africa, here we come!

As long as we don't get eaten alive by lions (staying in tents..yikes!)..will post a trip report when we get back..

Naaah...don't worry about being eaten alive.......they generally kill you before they start eating.

Brett, it looks like the temperatures are similar for fall versus spring periods when looking at weatherSpark info. Would there be a reason to favour one of them over the other?

Or the victim dies of a heart attack first. It will be painless then.

We really like the spring and the summer months where we live. We typically travel in the late summer/early fall and the winter time frames.

We have been to Greece (Crete) in the spring, just after Easter. Lovely time to go.

The other issue is that we just returned home from our annual two month winter trip traveling about to avoid the cold weather and enjoy other places. DW is not inclined to pick up sticks and head out after only a few weeks.

We are leaving in three weeks for an eight week trip to Europe (Lausanne Switzerland) and staying at our home over there. We got a great deal on Business Class (Upper Class) tickets on Virgin Atlantic last year. We will doing a lot of cycling and hiking in Switzerland, France, and Northern Italy during the 8 weeks. My in-laws like dining out a lot and we usually go out at least 2 times per week with them at various restaurants in Switzerland and France in small alpine villages where most tourists rarely travel to. Many of the locations we have visited with them in the past are absolutely stunning yet they are rarely found in travel guides. We also booked a short 4 day trip to Santorini Greece in late May. We also have a family reunion (wife's maternal side) to attend in Switzerland and also a wedding in Southern France. I plan to do a lot of video shooting this year and will bring lots of equipment with us.

I have had those Virgin Atlantic Business Class tickets in my Google flights que. I really want to try them. Give us a blow by blow after your trip

The seats, for our dates, are now $7272 each versus the $2912 each we paid in September. So it pays to plan ahead. We have flown Virgin upper class before. The seats were nice. The food is good. They have a small bar in upper class to socialize. The lounge at LHR is one of the finest. I will take photos and post them.

Business class on most premium overseas carriers (Swiss, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, KLM, Air Canada, Emirates, Turkish Airlines) is generally pretty good. You will get lie flat seats, a good selection of wines, a nice entertainment system, multiple meals, and pretty good service. In terms of food, I would say that Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines are superior to the others. In terms of seats, I would say that Singapore Airlines is superior.
