I say, "The Internet says that is a good price, it is more like $6. You are a bozo."

DW says: "Bozo this, I'll show ya!"

LOL. So how did it feel to sleep on the couch last night?

Diesel is all over the map but back down to $4.39/g. Was $6 just 2 months ago. My 99 cent spicy potato soft taco's are now $1.49. My tricare copay went from $33 to $36 on Jan 1st. Our favorite Sushi place has kept prices the same as has our local mexican place. Most other restaurants near us have gone up and shrunk portions. Where did the cheap airfares go?

Kind of soft at first, then it collapsed, as if I were sleeping on egg crates. :)

Back to topic, apparently the SE USA has not had as much of a problem with the chicken flu or whatever. We still can get eggs at a decent price.

Our state went to 1 sq' per bird January 1, so it's been nutty. Six bucks a dozen, limit two per customer. Limited selection on the shelves. Oh, well.

Dozen large eggs at Aldi in Pa for $3.91. I got one dozen. Hoping for lower price in near future, when I will stock up.

I remember years ago eggs at our Aldi's were dropping in price every week. I don't remember the particulars why but it was funny to watch.

At the final low I was able to buy 6 dozen eggs for $1.50. That was the limit. A dozen for .25. I told my wife how could they possibly make any money.

The past few times I've been to get groceries, I've postponed buying some items because the price seemed high. But today was the day that I just finally had to buy some things at those high prices. We are not destitute, we can afford groceries even when it feels like we are paying too much. I guess I'll have to tell our daughters that their inheritance will be a tiny bit less because Mom & Dad do not want to survive on rice and beans.

Brought my cat to the vet for his 3 month blood work since radioactive iodine treatment. Vet bill increased by about $20 since last visit. On the receipt, a couple of new charges.

One for vet tech fee and another for waste disposal. So, I guess now after taking the cat's temperature there's a charge for tossing the material away use used to be included? :( Ticky tacky fees.

Did your cat "obey" the isolation rules during the treatments? When I did I131 treatment, the isolation rules were pretty stringent for a couple of weeks or more.

But seriously, as we were losing our last cat ca 2006, bills went up every visit. Seemed like a racket - but the only game in town.

What the HECK is going one with EGGS?

DW goes out yesterday to Lidl and rejects the idea to purchase eggs at $3.49. She comes back and tells me so. I say, "The Internet says that is a good price, it is more like $6. You are a bozo."

DW says: "Bozo this, I'll show ya!"

She goes to Food Lion or Harris Teeter (North Carolina) and comes back with $2.29 per carton eggs. She then plants a flag in the floor of our kitchen that says: "I am THE master shopper."

So what the heck? Is this really a regional thing?

She is THE master shopper. At $2.29 per carton, that is a steal these days.

Near me they go for $4.99/dozen. Or I can get $6.99 for 18. Both are to expensive for my blood. When they were about $2.99 I bought but cut down from eating 2 a day to 1 a day. Now, I'm boycotting until more reasonable prices come back.

Aldi by me is still $4.99/dozen. But they were selling a full sized 100% loaf of wheat bread for only 25 cents. I had to look 3 times to make sure I wasn't reading incorrectly. I bought 4 loaves. Normally bread by me locally is about $3.99 a loaf these days.

Your "up to date kids" might tell you to eat more brown rice, beans of all sorts along with fruits and all vegetables. They likely want you around much longer as compared to some inheritance.

I tell that to my "quadruple bypass" dad all the time. Eat moar plants. He then orders a cheese and pepperoni pizza and washes it down with a few beers. Oh well. The path isn't always easy or apparent.

Went to return an Amazon package @ Whole Foods. Decided to walk around as I don't shop there... Organic eggs were $9.49/doz. Talk about a golden goose.

When I went to Aldi's this afternoon, the regular, factory produced, white eggs were $4.62 per dozen. The cage-free brown eggs were only $4.13 per dozen. Usually they're substantially more than the white ones. Maybe Rhode Island Reds are not as affected by the avian flu as Leghorns? I have no idea.

Something to be said for not being "cooped" up with a bunch of other birds. Gotta be a recipe for disaster every few years. Sorta like nursing homes for chickens.

Clearly the price of eggs is very regional. DW bought some last week at Ruler Food (Kroger's attempt to be Aldi's). $3.00 for TWO dozen large eggs (though I will admit what is sold as large eggs today are only a bit larger than the pullet's we bought when I was a kid)

Amica auto renewal up 7.25% since last 6 months. Normally drops due to aging car, but is overwhelmed by overall inflation wave.

We'll pay for this with DW's excellent egg foraging skills.

My natural gas bill is projected to quadruple from this time last year.

From a recent email from SoCalGas:

Same month last year: $73.18

Projected next bill: $316.67

The egg price is crazy. It takes us 3 weeks to finish 18 eggs. Three weeks ago we go to Walmart and we pay $3. Now it's $6. Next time we go it'll be either $12 or $9.

I just briefly reviewed the last few pages of this thread, wondering if anyone else has been stunned lately at the recent spike in the price of eggs. Yep; several entries about this. I hadn't bought eggs in maybe 6-8 weeks. WOW - was I shocked! I paid $4.99 for a dozen at Aldi yesterday, and when I made a comment under my breath the person next to me told me this was a good price! I can't believe it - I paid $1.19/dozen the last time I bought them. So hmmm - a 319% increase in six weeks? Unbelievable!

From an article in today's WSJ:

https://www.wsj.com/articles/natura...pt-in-california-11673411627?mod=hp_lead_pos4

Spot natural-gas prices in southern California have this month averaged about $19.40 per million British thermal units. That is roughly five times the U.S. benchmark, which is set at a pipeline junction in Louisiana called Henry Hub and has traded around $3.75 this month.

California has been one of the few places where temperatures have been colder than usual. Heating demand sapped already low inventories, reducing supplies along the Pacific Coast to about 33% below the five-year average, according to the Energy Information Administration. That compares with stockpiles across the Lower 48 states that ended the year 6.7% below normal.

That explanation sounds reasonable, so I'm going with it. Thanks.

We got an email saying the gas cost would be double in January, but the 4X increase was a shocker. Lots of consternation here on Next Door, where people are reporting similar increases.

It has seemed colder than usual here, too, and I know I’m getting to feel colder than before, so the higher price is an accumulation of factors for us.

I’ll just wear sweatshirts and do more Silver Sneaker walking and cardio classes to warm up as best I can.
People go through much colder weather than this.

Temperatures have been way above normal around here except for that one-week blast of cold air around Christmas so even if natural gas prices do go up I don't expect we'll be hit too hard anyway. But we'll see.

Was it a super special? Eggs haven't been that cheap in a long time....a month ago I got a KQ app special of 2.99 a dozen....

Purchased 3 "3 times a year or less" items from Costco:

Costco TP: $19.99 ($18.99 from September purchase)
All Free n Clear Detergent: $13.79 on sale ($10.99 on sale in June)
Dixie paper cups: $16.99 ($13.99 in March 2022)

Total before tax: $50.77, vs. $41.97 in previous purchases.

Sams Club has monthly specials and very often in the past they would run sale prices on their Member's Mark brand. I find that brand very acceptable and buy it often. In the last 2 years they run specials only the name brand items which cost more...so that's a stealth inflation I'm seeing.

ACK! This just doesn't seem fair!

This is deja vu all over again. DW and I bought our first house back in '72. We heated with propane which cost $0.17/gallon. FF through Oil Shock I and Oil Shock II. Propane jumped to $1.20/gallon.

ACK! Is an understatement.

When 55+ million birds are taken out of the mix, then there are going to be some price corrections. I expect to see something similar in the coming months with beef as the drought has made cattle production lag significantly.
