    are buckets really necessary?

Choosing to use 'buckets' is like choosing when to take social security. What works for one may not work for another, and there is no one right answer for all. I'm retired six years now and have found no need for using 'buckets'

Poll: Stay the course or Sell it All. May 2020

As a longtime LBYM person I have pretty much stayed the course. However..... when the DOW dropped below 19k I was a bad Boglehead and spent my fun money on some well known stocks. Have done very well with the purchase, but who knows, I may soon be buying more when the DOW falls through 16k...

    News/politics fast

It's about time for me to order a new remote as my mute button is getting worn and hard to see. Before house arrest I wore down the mute button skipping commercials now its skipping the so called 'news'

Do you think Dow 18,000 was the bottom?

I was a very bad senior citizen and spent some of my 'fun' money when the Dow dropped below 19000- (Amazon, Microsoft, Walmart &Tesla.). Time will tell but at my age life is too short not to have some fun, especially given all the money I'm saving while under-house-arrest for Covid 19

Social Security retirement benefit check arrival date

USAA bank appears to credit my account a day or two early. Both SS and military retirement. I suspect the federal electronic transfers go out to the direct deposit accounts the day before?

    Don't forget the survivor plan

My bad I confused my wife taking SS at 66 based on what I would have received if I took SS at 66 rather than at 70, That's what happens when you get 'old'.

    Don't forget the survivor plan

FWIW- I'm long retired and I'm one of those who waited until 70 for SS (actually 69.5) because I'm madly in love with my better half. That said, your spouse does not necessarily get all your SS when you die. If you waited past 66 to take SS as I did she will only get paid for what you earned at...

    Thinking about a Tesla truck

I like people/companies who think outside the box. Space X and Tesla are a great example. Ordered a Tesla cyber-truck for my wife two days ago:dance:

    Online banking from the road

I never use free wifi for banking or other secure transactions, but I have used my Verizon connection for bank transfers etc.

    Poll:Big Ticket spending

+1 If you saved and planned well than $50k should not be such a 'significant' amount:dance:

    Chuckanuts Total Knee Replacement story

I'm 72 and put off TKR for several years. Lessons learned: Don't wait. With Medicare you have a number of loops to work through like repeated painful shots in the knee, I waited until pain was unbearable but still had to do the 'routine' Take stool softners before and after surgery...

    Being Forced Out

I personally would not post my wife's employment problems with a local government employer, especially when I display where I reside next to my post.

    Poll:Air Travel

We just returned from an Eastern European cruise and chose to use business class (KLM and Delta). Will never fly coach overseas again as business class made trip for this 72 year old and 65 old youngster so much better. I have been a LBYM proponent for years and enjoying my health while i...
