    Latest Inflation Numbers and Discussion

Russia making more $$$$ than ever before? That’s not what the article you posted says at all. Their July (one month) revenue increased 2.5 billion to 15.3 billion but that was still 4.1 billion, per your posted article, LESS than the same time last year. In addition between Jan and June their...

How Will Inflation Affect Your 2022 Planned Spend?

Total Stock Market Index is up 23.65% YTD resulting in appreciation that vastly overshadows, in a positive way, the inflation premium I paid for goods and services this year. So far so good. What does the future hold? Who knows?

    $350k in Money Market Funds

You should do what makes you sleep at night but in regards to following Hussman…. On Morningstar I plugged in Hussmans Strategic Growth (ill-named) Fund vs Vanguards Total Stock Market Index (VTSAX) over the past 10 years. Investing 100k in Hussmans Fund ten years ago would have resulted in a...

    Downsizing Dilemma

The “good old days” , which I lived through, are a bit romanticized as the current crime rates (on a per capita basis) for murder, robbery, rape, etc are quite a bit lower than the late 60’s, early 80’s etc.

DH concerned about taxes...what to do...

Projecting future tax rates is difficult/nearly impossible. Rather than “usually going up” the tax rate trend has been actually going down over the past 4 decades. Biden’s capital gains/dividends proposals, if (doubtful) passed, will hit those with incomes above 1,000,000 which statistically...

    House Rich Cash Poor Retirement?

According to your post it sounds like your pension and both SS checks cover your expenses. If that’s the case I say go for it. For years my plan was to sell our home in a high cost area and bank a lot of cash when moving to somewhere more reasonable. Instead we fell in love with an “almost...

Are you looking to buy leisure industry stocks and if so which ones?

I have no idea where cruise ship stocks are going from here but the “buy when there is blood in the streets” mantra would have worked when travel stocks were slammed. Carnival (CCL), as an example, fell to 7.80 and is now nearly $27.00 a share. It may or may not have a lot of upside but there is...

Fed cuts interest rates to Zero

Predicting market moves is always a wild guess but this weekend has been very eventful and could lead to a washout tomorrow ..... *The fed move signals things are worse than we think. *The closing of restaurants, bars, schools, travel etc is accelerating. I believe virtually all...

“Only when the tide goes out do you discover who’s been swimming naked.” - Warren Bu

Daily price actions are a guessing game, to say the least, but I won’t be surprised if you get your 2399 S&P buy on Monday. We are heading into a closing everything but healthcare and grocery store scenario which I would think will lead to some market panic. I bought a little VTI at 128 on...

Does that mean we should all try to time the markets?

Coronavirus - Financial, Health and Other impacts II

Long term, although there are no guarantees, the market has ALWAYS (100% of the time) rallied back to previous highs.

Coronavirus - Financial, Health and Other impacts II

The S&P is only down 3% from four months ago so I’m not sure that it is now a huge buying opportunity on a relative price basis.

Am I the only one who doesn't fret about taxes too much?

Well said. I have relatives that draw very generous federal pensions, receive great health care, enjoy the roads/military protection/emergency services you mention, etc., etc., and act as though they are getting screwed every time they pay a penny in taxes. I don’t get it.
