    Wealth Accumulation

Didn't grow up in a wealthy family, paid for college on my own, including a fair amount of student loans (went to college in the 80's, so not huge amounts), married a frugal wife. We had OK jobs, but not that high paying until later in my case. I made pretty good money from 40'ish to 49 when I...

    2023 Investment Performance Thread

16.49% on the liquid portion of our investable assets, which is 87%/0%/13%. Non-liquid assets are investment real estate, which make up 70% of our total investments. That portion is probably down about 8-9%.

Anyone from the greater Palm Springs area?

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but we're thinking about coming down to the Palm Springs area next month for a couple of weeks (most likely Palm Desert), and just wondering if much is open right now, especially restaurant-wise. Are places open for dining in, or just take out? How about shops?

    Blow That Dough! - 2020

Just finishing up remodeling our kitchen (new counter tops, appliances, refacing cabinets). Over the summer we replaced our furnace with a heat pump/furnace combo. And just bought a Tesla Model Y. I'm hoping we're done blowing that dough for a while...

    Anyone else a Tesla investor?

I bought $20k worth a few years ago at a pre-split price of ~ $135 and sold about two years later with a gain of about 70% and put the proceeds in Wells Fargo. D'oh! I wasn't a big fan of the huge price swings so decided to bail. That $20k would be worth about $325k today. I kick myself...

I cannot understand the TV dialogue

+1. The CC'ing drives me nuts as it constantly distracts me. The rest of my family (DW, DS, DD) love using it though. If I happen to miss/misunderstand some dialogue, I will rewind the show and turn the CC on, then turn it off again.

How do you feel now? (4 Months later)

Everything we had in equities stayed in equities. We had a fair amount still sitting in cash from a property sale last November, so I bought more equities at the end of February, the last week of March, and mid April. In June we decided to remodel our kitchen and baths so I sold out of...

Sell apartment buildings or keep forever?

Yes, this is me/us. We started investing in residential real estate in 2003 and it makes up about 2/3rds of our investable assets, after selling costs and potential tax hit. We had as many as 34 units (combo of small apartments, SFHs, and individual condos) and are now down to 20, all in the...

berkeley - what types of properties are you invested in and what types of returns are you getting? I'm thinking about going this route in the near future.

What to do with taxable million $ ??

Calmloki, I'm curious what you decided to do here. Lately I've started looking at DST's and I think they could be decent investments, after all. It seems the sponsors probably do much better, but if you're fine with a 5%-6% return on your full investment after selling costs, i.e. no taxes...

How many are Real Estate investors/landlords?

We have 20 tenants (residential) and all have paid to date, so no cash flow issues. We feel very fortunate as this is our primary source of income.

For the first time ever I sold all my stocks

I guess I should've reworded my post. I know it's way too early to tell if it was a good idea or not. I was just wondering what people's thoughts were, such as your potential for FOMO and if that caused them to get back in or be content with holding on to the cash. I hope you let us know how...

For the first time ever I sold all my stocks

I'm curious if those that went to cash or sold a good portion of their stock positions earlier in the year are happy with their decision. And of those that did if they started buying back in. I came close to doing so at the beginning of April, but could not bring myself to do it. And this was...
