    Class of 2023

Hi Everyone. I was planning on exiting the 9-5 in 2023 and moving to part time. However plans have changed now that the economy has darkened. Hopefully join the class of 2025 and grind it out for another 2.5 years.

    Spokane WA

Downtown Seattle is neither safe or clean. Homeless, needles, human feces. It’s been ruined…sorry. Born and raised in Seattle. The old seattle of yesteryears is gone.

Pay off the mortgage or set it and forget it, what would you do?

You should be able to get a heloc, look around. Another option is a pledged asset line (PAL) through your brokerage.

How many nights do you eat out in a week

Not quite yet retired, but close. We (family of 4) eat out a lot per week. Maybe on average 2 lunches and 3 dinners per week.

How much post tax cash do you keep around?

Is that this total? Meaning you have 7 years expenses in cash + 12x expenses in bonds + 45x in equities? Or is each separate?

Debt Reserves as Asset Allocation Strategy

I like the idea! Putting an asset like a house to use as a means to extract cash during market downturns, smart. That said, the interest rate would have to be low and you would still have to have some cash on hand to make the min monthly payments.

49 and $5M in Retirement - Having trouble FIREing myself

I’m in a similar situation as the OP. Similar expenses (slightly higher) similar net worth. I’m 52 and will likely wrap up Megacorp by 54, then work part time for a few more years wrapping everything up by 56ish. My kids are only 9 and 11 so I feel the need to work a little longer, I just want...

    Class of 2023

I’m right with you, 2023 is my planned exit date from mega Corp. of corse anything can happen between now and then but 2023 is my target RE date. I’ll be 55 by then.

Semi-FIRE: Anyone else slowing down but not stopping yet?

I am in a similar situation. Totally burned out with mega Corp, but I have two kids and a stay at home wife so expenses are high. FIRE calc looks good if I pull the trigger in 2021, but with two young kids I feel better if I continue to pull in some income for the next 5-8 years. Chances of me...

Financial Samurai Can't Afford FIRE Anymore

Kids are super expensive and he underestimate the expense. I did too, so I can’t criticize the guy for his oversight. You want the best for your kids and that means $$. Really interesting topic!

    It's Wednesday weigh ins! 2007-2022

190 today, down 2lbs over the past two weeks. Hoping to get to 185 by end of month, but I have some travel coming up and that makes the weight loss difficult. I have started a day or two a week of zero carbs, hopefully that helps with the weight loss.

Put yourself in my shoes, what would you do?

I did it from age 35-38 where after getting laid off, I bounced around between Hawaii, China, HK, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Brazil, Panama, Costa Rica then landed in Argentina. I did have one part time gig that paid alot in China (3 months), but mostly I kept my expenses low. Did some...

    Inheritance - separate or co-mingled

Separate for me. It’s a sizable amount and while I don’t see us ever divorcing I wanted to keep it separate.

Are you getting ready to make major equity shifts?

Yes. Went from 100% equities to 75% will likely reduce my equity position more. Sept-Oct can be volatile and I want to be prepared. If I am wrong and the correction doesn’t come so be it, I’ll miss out on some upside, but I feel better about taking some $$ off the table temporarily.

    Retired, or just UnEmployed?

personally I think you should retire, you've put in alot of years and software sales is not easy. I too own a boat and considered that as a semi-retired job, could be fun if you were with the right crew. I am checking out FEMA jobs as a semi-retirement option. Meeting with the head of mobile...
